Guest guest
Hi everyone, Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. As a relatively new postop (7-1/2 weeks) I was quite pleased with my dad. I had a little of everything and was quite satisfied. There was some discussion on the lists previously about how much we miss our parents who are gone. I echo that especially in the next few weeks. My 40th birthday was on Thanskgiving day last year - yes that makes me 41 today. My mother had been in the hospital since 11/15, having been diagnosed with necrotizing fascitis ( a flesh-eating bacteria) which started in her groin and rapidly spread to her abdomen. She had 5 surgers over the course of the next 8 days. The day before Thanksgiving we found out she had lots of blood clots in her right leg which we were hoping would not travel to her lungs. No such luck. On Thanksgiving night they put in a Greenfield filter which " hopefully " keeps clots from moving to the lungs. Once again - no such luck. I spent most of 11/26 last year with her - even though when she would wake up she would tell me to go home to be with my children or " didn't I have something better to do " . I left the hospital about 6:00 on Friday evening, said good-bye and " I love you " and that was the last words I ever got to say to her. She was put on a ventilator the next morning after having stopped breathing and she died a week and a half later never having come off the ventilator or been allowed to regain consciousness. I miss her so terribly especially today on my birthday. My children (ages 5 and 4) are trying very hard to make today special as is my husband and my father. I know however she is in heaven looking down on my and smiling. She would be so pleased with my success so far. (To further make this time of year difficult my husband lost his father a week ago today.) As for my success - I went into clinic in a loose size 26 jeans. Today I am wearing 22s that fit nicely - and that is with " only " 23 pounds which is considered " slow " by the charts. I also bought a dress today for the holidays which is a size 20! I am quite pleased with my progress - even though of course I would take faster! The moral of my story if there is one is to especially at this time of year be thankful for the family you have - and the family that you have lost. I thank God every day for my mother even though sometimes I don't quite understand why she is not here. Take care of yourselves and your family - we never know how long they will be with us! on MGB 10/04/00 Preop 275 -23 pounds in 7 weeks
Guest guest
on, I am so proud of you and don't even know you. You are doing good. Loosing 23 lbs is a great accomplishment and there is more to come... I am new and don't know anything... I just took the 1st step and filled out the form. I know I have alot to still do. So thanks for the encouragement. I too lost my mother 7 years ago and it is just like yesterday. There is just something about mothers... They love you when no one else does. Just remember her love and it will keep you warm and unafraid. Sincerely Connie Moseley Feeling a little blue..... > Hi everyone, > > Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Guest guest
Dear , Thank you for your very touching e-m. May your mother's memory be a blessing to you always. We also lost several relatives at Thanksgiving time, so I know how you feel. Maybe we can temper the sadness of their absence by rejoicing in their spirit. All the best to you, and congrats on the continued success, Jon in Tuscaloosa > > Hi everyone, > > Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Guest guest
, What a very touching post. My parents are both 74 yrs. old and even though in fairly good health, I can feel them slipping away from us a little farther each year. My sis and I try to plan all our holidays around them, for we feel each one may be their last... Just remember your mother may be gone here on earth, but she will always be with you!! She is only a thought away, and always in your heart! Hoping that this holiday season is a happy one for you with all kinds of fond memories.. And enjoy all your family that is still here physically around you. Together in shared experiences and bonded in faith, Trudy Feeling a little blue.....
