Guest guest
Eileen, You wrote, " My esophagus, sternum, entire ribcage and lungs have been in pain. " I also have severe chest pain during periods of pancreatic exacerbation. At my last visit with my pancreatologist and his nurse practitioner, I brought this up, especially during the exam when I was asked to take a deep breath. I asked why that hurts so badly. They reminded me that when the pancreas is inflamed, the spinal nerves that enervate the pancreas are also inflamed, as well as the diaphragm, which supports the chest. The burning which is present deep inside, which feels like my esophagus, is probably related to the increased acidity of the reflux or the back up of stomach fluids. This is a common problem with pancreatitis. Karyn E. , RN Executive Director, PAI Indianapolis, Indiana
