Guest guest
contrast dye today.....results Wed. GI doc " thinks " it's pancreatitis or pancreas cancer. Symptoms....July 11 couldn't fall asleep for 5 days in row....VERY EXHAUSTED, NO ENERGY, racing heart, run-down feeling(last alcohol was in 1986). Went to ER...gave me Ativan....said it was General Anxiety Disorder. Trying to wean of Ativan....it's been 7 weeks.....a week after start of Ativan, GI pain in hieatal hernia area....responded to Maalox. A week ago, pain is " all over " abdomen in random pain locations. There is intermitant pain just under the left ribcage(Pancreas?) and occasional bouts of pain shooting down into pelvic area. ANY food or water worsens pain after 30 minutes.......please note.....I lost 26 ponds in 7 weeks not trying....no appetite....still force myself to eat....my stomach volume capacity for food is small(1/2 can beans fills me up....food just " lies " in my stomach for 4 hours....stools are lighter yellow brown....doc said my billbary(?) levels were high but no jaundice/liver disease noted. The stomack discomfort now is 24/7, with my bed elevated and no spicy foods. I had endoscopy/colonoscopy 2 1/2 yrs ago...was ok....The side effects from Ativan are that it increases bilibary levels, causes weight change, affects sugar somewhat, causes stomach and abdominal discomfort. But I'm only on .35 mg (LOW DOSE) for sleep only once daily. I'll stop there and ask those of you to comment on possibilities(pancreatic and others.....antacids don't help pain anymore....my weight is so low may need hospital. Thanks for comments! Guest guest
Shybasset, I am so sorry to hear all you are going through. Welcome to our group. I have cp and have had it for 3 years (diagnosed). I went for some time with symptoms without diagnosis. Have your amalase and lipase levels been checked? That is how they found my pancreatitis. I also lost weight but I had just had gastric bypass surgery the year before and assumed I was still losing from that. I didn't realize it was the pancreatitis causing it. Antacids will not help pancreatic pain. I took mild narcotics for about 2 years and withstood the pain because I didn't know I had other options. My docs in my local area had no idea what to do with me and said I should be getting better! Ha! Were they ever wrong! I go to a pancreas specialist and surgeon in ton, SC. I had surgery on my pancreas in June but it did not help. I have had to increase my narcotic use considerably in the past year. I am not sure if this helped you at all. Where do you live and are you going to a doc who is used to dealing with pancreas patients? The reason we ask where you live is because we can sometimes reccomend docs in your area that others on the board have been to. I will be glad to help answer any questions if I can. But I of course am not a medical professional. Just a graduate of Pancreas problems 101!!!
