Guest guest
I used to participate on this list way back years ago with my son Luke. He is doing beautifully. This question is about me and I'm really hoping someone here can help me. I have had to return to SCD after realizing that gluten was causing my depression/irritability/fatigue. When I removed that, then I noticed corn and rice did about the same thing to me. So by default I am pretty much back to scd. Which I'm fine with, I just want to feel good. However, something is awry here and I can't find it. I'll start the day feeling well and almost suddenly end up grumpy, tired, irritable - extremely so, just as I feel after I've eaten gluten. I even have the tell tale rash (tiny, sporadic red bumps on my breasts and abdomen that itch like crazy - they went away when I went off gluten). I've been eliminating things trying to find the culprit, there's some trace amount hidden somewhere and I can't find it. I'm down to homemade SCD yogurt made from raw cow's milk, blanched almonds, and a sweet n low for breakfast. I waited to eat and sure enough, I was fine. I ate, and now I'm a bear again. It's like something is raging inside me. What on eart is the culprit, can anyone here help? I would sure appreciate it. thanks, McConnell

What ingredients are in your sweet n low? Are they whole almonds or almond flour? Guest guest
Hi Sheila, no I did not start back on intro diet. Maybe I need to. It was really not my intention to go back to full blown SCD, only to go gluten free. However, alternate grains and corn and rice all brought on the same overwhelming fatigue. So I decided, gosh, I've done SCD with my son in the past (he was strict for 2 years, healed up beautifully, then gradually added things back in). I know I'm not going about this right. But it sure befuddles me how SCD yogurt (made from yogourmet starter and whole raw cow milk), regular name brand Sweet n Low (now I thought I remembered that was safe?), and blanched slivered almonds (from a bin in Earth Fare) could have this effect. It's like night and day. I've been looking for hidden gluten but I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not tolerating the yogurt all of a sudden. Why woudl that be? weird... So intro diet... if memory serves, eggs, chicken and carrot soup? Right? I loaned my book out about a year ago and never got it back, but I'm sure if I take time to scour the website it will all come back to me. Sigh.. I dont' have time for this. I'm homeschoolign these guys. But I've gotta feel good to do that. I do appreciate it.
Guest guest
Hi, , So glad to hear of Luke's success! Here's some info from the Knowledge Base on Sweet 'n' Low. The SCDT Knowledge Base Saccharine Deborah writes: Sweet N Low is legal, in spite of the tiny quantities of dextrose and cream of tartar, because it's the most easily found form of saccharine. But if you can find Necta Sweet or liquid Sweet N Low, you'll avoid those substances. CVS has always carried Necta Sweet. I'm sure they can order it for you. Liquid Sweet N Low is not ideal, as it's preserved with methyl paraben. We are all exposed to so many chemicals (pesticides, some plastics and more) that are estrogenic in their effect - it's not a good idea to voluntarily consume more. Necta Sweet is really the best form of saccharine available in the States, but it's hard to find and slightly less convenient than Sweet N Low. I believe there's also a brand of saccharine in Canada that doesn't have the illegals (ed. Hermesetas). But if you can't find Necta Sweet, I wouldn't worry too much about using Sweet N Low..... For those of us who can't tolerate honey, Sweet N Low has been very helpful mom to -12 SCD 4/23/

Why woudl that be? weird... > > Hi, A few things come to mind... 1) " from a bin in Earth Fare " : Yikes. I am assuming you mean one of those multiple bin set-ups where they have the scoops etc so you can choose your own amounts? I would be concerned with cross contamination, age of nuts, nuts PERIOD for a person as highly sensative as you seem just now. 2) " Sweet N Low " : If *normal* food is problematic for you (grains, etc), I would be wary of any artificial substances. 3) " whole raw cow's milk with yogourmet starter " : Is it the same starter you used before? If so, and it has been a few years, did they change up the formula? Are your symptoms the same or worse as when you did SCD before (implying if you are more sensitive now, perhaps choosing pastured goat or sheeps' milk over moo might be worth looking at). Just some thoughts. Good luck pinning it down :-) -christine
Guest guest
Hi , <<I'm > not tolerating the yogurt all of a sudden. Why woudl that be? weird...>> You may have some trouble in your gut from eating rice, corn etc.. You may need to clean things out before you tolerate the yogurt again. The slivered almonds are more advanced than almond butter or almond flour. Did you tolerate sweet n low before on the diet? If that is a new item it may not be okay for you. > > So intro diet... if memory serves, eggs, chicken and carrot soup? > Right? The intro diet is at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#intro (dairy free) Sheila, SCD Feb.2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
