Guest guest
The protocol for the anesthisia team is to alwasy use lidocaine when starting IV's. Many of the areas do not but they are usually only putting in tiny little 22's or something. The anes team put in much larger ones. When I switched to the OR's I was trained to start IV's with lidocaine and always have since. I remember when I went for a ct scan and asked them if they used it they said no. I told them we do and they said that is because we are under the anesthesia team. Well I did a policy search and found that any RN at MUSC can use lidocaine if they choose. When you do come down and they decide to do a procedure then just let them know that only somebody from anesthesia can start your IV. You dont have to explain why, its just what you want. When they come tell them you want the lido and they will get it. They are used to it anyway, no biggie at all. Shoot sug if they give you any grief I will come and put it in myself. I was one of the best stickers in the OR and people would call me upstairs to put in IVs for them too. Even in the ONc floors. I could even slip a 16 into your grandmamma andhave her laughing through the whole thing....LOL. Dont worry hon, asking for anes and lido is not big deal at all. Just please let me know when you are scheduled and I will be there, as long as its not toooooo early in the morning. Talk soon
Guest guest
Thanks so much. I am in a state of " a total wreck " tonight. I am crying and shaking as I type this now. This is not me at all. I am so scared. I thought this stuff was mostly over. My family is worn out and I see the toll its taking on them and I just want to give up. My hubby is a rock but it is taking its toll. My 80+ year old parents are having to watch this. My sister lives 700 miles away, I haven't seen my oldest son in 5 1/2 years because he is doing some " rebelling " and my youngest is married and busy with his own life. Sorry to vent, but I have had it. I get so tired of having to explain stuff to folks in the hospitals. If Dr. Cotton wants an MRCP and they put in secretin, does that mean I can request an IV person or whatever to come to MRCP and start the IV? Won't they give me a hassle? When I get ready to ahve the ERCP can I request anesthesia start the IV and not the people in the endo suite? Im telling you , this is scaring the hell out of me. I feel like I am going backwards instead of forward. If I could just be sure that I don't have to be stuck w/o lido I would not be so warped out of shape. I remember the care you gave me when I was there the first or second time, I think the first and won't ever forget. Now you are sick and giving me advice again. Im also scared that Dr. Cotton will give up. He said he wouldn't but Im afraid there will come a time. My body cannot take major surgery. I have too many medical problems. Some days, like today, I think I am just going to die from this stuff and I should just get my " affairs in order. " Most of the time the biggest thing they can get in me is a 22 gauge needle, sometimes a 24. I just don't think I can take much more of this. Thanks for letting me blow off and believe me I will let you know when I am down there.
