Guest guest
It took all day yesterday. I thawed 2 gallons of goat milk, cooked it, cooled it, mixed it and put it in the dehydrator. I FORGOT to turn it on AGAIN! Is there no cure for absent-mindedness! Everthing I touched yesterday burned, exploded, ruined or fell apart. So now I have wasted $24 in fresh goat milk that I drove 150 miles to get. Isn't life beautiful sometimes! My husband asked how do you do this? I just don't know. Guest guest
oh you poor sweet thing, I have so been there - again and again. try to calm down, is there any salvaging it at all? these ladies might have ideas. just take this hug and know you are not alone and you are not an idiot, this is hard.. even with sticky notes all over appliances in my kitchen I still do this kind of thing. take care,
Guest guest
BIG HUG!!!!! .. <Everthing I touched yesterday burned, exploded, ruined or fell apart. Is there no cure for absent-mindedness!> We have all been there. It sound like you are rushing around too much.. trying to do too much...Can hubby help in the kitchen? If he can tell him you need him to help. My hubby and son load and empty the dishwasher and sometimes i call on them to help in the kitchen when i'm preparing a meal. I have also delegated other work around the house to them to. And the days the family doesn't make much effort helping out, we eat more leftovers...and i spend less time in the kitchen. Ask for help from a friend or family member if you can... Things will get better... take care, CAthy Kiddos scd 1 year > > It took all day yesterday. I thawed 2 gallons of goat milk, cooked > it, cooled it, mixed it and put it in the dehydrator. Guest guest
Now I don't really know, Bonita, and Sheila's not on the list much today, but I would think that if the milk still tastes fresh and you re- heat it to 180F to kill all bacteria and put in more starter....maybe..... I know this doesn't help you right now, but for future, do what I do. Turning on the dehydrator is the *first* step in making yogurt. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Ah yes, Bonita -- Well, it really could've been worse!! You could've been cooking something on the stove and it could've started to burn, putting off sparks, then the kitchen would've caught on fire and then the house could've burned down!! So -- while this didn't happen to me I certainly have put something to cook on the stove and wandered off and gotten distracted and came back to find it pretty much ruined. Then I found this handy little timer from Pampered Chef (no, I don't sell the stuff). I've seen something similar at Bed Bath & Beyond and on ebay. The Pampered Chef one has a little clip on the back so you can clip it to your jeans, or whatever. I time mine to remind me of all sorts of things. Guest guest
I hate it when that happens. . . It continued after I sent the email. In addition to the yogurt opps my carrots and chicken kind of got out of hand and a little got on my ceiling (brand new since Ivan repairs were done last year). I dropped bags of pearsauce I had made and spilled them all. That and more was yesterday, but I just can't remember it all. Then today after I sent the email, I burned a 10 qt pot of beans and sausage. I may (not sure yet) be able to salvage the pot that will cost $150 + to replace. I got a really good deal on it many years ago; it's a professional one with all the bells and whistles. Finally I called my husband after that and he said, " Don't do anything else but school today. " So I didn't. I didn't even cook dinner - leftovers. I forgot about the timer. I haven't seen mine since Ivan. Think I'll invest in another one. Bonita Re: Noooooooooooo! I did it again! Guest guest
I have burned more pots of beans than I'll admit :-). I like the idea of the timer that goes with you. Goodness, I just read your latest message. Some days when it starts out like that, I just leave the kitchen and do like you--eat leftovers. That's why when the mood strikes, I try to make the most of it. Maybe soaking the pot overnight will help salvage it. Feel better, we all have days like that. > > I hate it when that happens. . . > It continued after I sent the email. Guest guest
I'm sorry Bonita ... but I'm laughing myself til I have tears!!! I'm sure you're probably offended by that - but it sounds like you had a REALLY REALLY bad day!! However, one way you could look at it is that it was a clever way to get assistance from your husband!! ;-) You know ... you might need more than one timer ..... ;-) It'll get better, really - I promise! I warm it up on the stove for 2-3 minutes with the lid on. Leave the lid on and allow to soak overnight. I have had a few days like that. Shortly after painting the kitchen ceiling I was making strawberry smoothies. I loaded up the blender and gave it a few bursts. I took off the lid to add some honey and forgot to put it back on. It is really amazing how high frozen strawberries will fly when you press the " pulse " button. I also made my blender explode when the cord caught fire...but that's a sad story for a different day. Guest guest
Sheila, That was a great story about the strawberries and blender. It's nice to laugh with someone else sometimes instead of always at myself. I got a great mental image on it. Reminds me of when I got the mayonnaise spots on the ceiling. Bonita Re: Noooooooooooo! Guest guest
Dede, No I'm not offended in the least. I'm used to laughing at myself and getting laughed at by others. I'm just glad I could spread some joy. Of course if I got multiple timers, I'd forget which timer is for what. . .Then I'd have to get sticky post it tabs. . .and. . .well. :-) <I'm really laughing hard at this point.
