Guest guest
Well, I thought I might sit down and describe the fiasco that went on in the hospital this time. I thought you all might get a good laugh and it would be therapeutic for me. Its all such a joke. When I went into the hospital they were in the process of moving the adult medicine floor to the new and " redone " floor so for the first three days I was in an old icky part. Then they moved me to the new part. You would think this would be an improvement, but they didn't even get things done before they moved folks. It is such a joke. First of all there were no curtains on teh windows. That sounds like no biggie but when the sun is out it makes it unbearably hot. These particular rooms had a window the whole length of one wall. So they started taping sheets to the windows with masking tape. Of course that doesn't work and inch by inch that falls off and I spent half my time taping sheets back up. Then at night they would completely fall off and you have all the lights of the town shining in on you. I finally had had enough and asked my hubby who works their in facility services if he could put up garbage bags or something I didn't care what it was. So he wound up putting up black garbage bags on the windows with duct tape! So I am in this room with blakced out windows. Wasn't hot anymore though. He left the tape off the bottom so I could lift them up and at least see the light. You would think that a hospital doing a new floor would have all this figured out. Then there were no shower curtains! I don't have to tell you waht a dangerous nightmare this is. I finally called housekeeping supervision and asked about them and they said they had no shower curtains and that was the way it was! I got ticked and said I bet they would have shower curtains if it were Mr. so-and-so who runs the hospital. Well, guess what, I got a brand new shower curtain, not one BUT TWO! Then, they don't clean which has been a problem for the whole 8 years I ahve been a patient there. They do not clean the bathrooms. The housekeeper goes in and flushes the toilet and walks out. They don't clean tubs, they won't even take the dirty wet towels away. They said that was not their job it was the job of the CNA! Can you believe that. I went out in the hall and there are allt hese soiled linen basket things up and down the hall and the housekeeper is sitting on her butt doing nothing but tells me they don't pick up the towels because if they start doing that they would have to do it all the time. So I proceed to get the towels out and they didn't like that so she grabbed them out of my hand and put them in the basket. The next three days after I had to truck it way down the hall to get rid of the towels. She saw me and just told me I could put them in the bin and turned and walked away. I wanted to slap her with my IV pole! By the way, I did report these people. Then I had a nurse who was a total nurse " ratchet " who hated herself, her job and everyone else. She was just down right mean. One day they came to get me from radiology and I asked what for and they said a CT scan. Well I hadn't heard that was happening so asked the nurse. She looked at me and said that I didn't need to know what I was having I just needed to go do it! Can you believe that? My mom and dad were there at that point and my dad was livid. Everything I would ask it was " you don't need to know that " or some smart aleck answer. I reported her and I was told that she got a written warning. The floor supervisor apologized and told me they had problems with her before. I only went in with pancreatitis and came out with about 5 other things. They decided I had sleep apnea and started all this crap. Well, if you are getting all this Dilaudid IV I would think you would have some kind of apnea for crying out loud! Then they decided I had a staph urinary tract infection and gave me Keflex and I had a reaction to that and am still suffering. They don't know if it was the Keflex or the Lovenox for blood clotting they were injecting in my stomach every day. I have had both drugs before, so who knows. Can you get a rash from Staph? Every time I get in that place I get a Staph infection some place. Last time it was in my throat and ear. This time my throat started hurting and I asked the nurse if she would look and see if she could see (Staph is not hard to see in the throat) and she tells me she would have to get a flashlight. This is at night. I said so get one. When she came back I asked her if she wanted me to turn the light on and she said she had the flashlight now. So why didn't she turn the light on to start with. Maybe I am being picky but ther are some real witches up there and most of them work the night shift. In defense, there are some really good nurses who always try and take care of me and I have made very good friends with them. But some, forget it. What is wrong with these people. The last straw was the day construction was going on right outside my window and the jack hammers started and actually vibrated the bed! You would think it was an earth quake. Now this all might sound silly to some of you, but when you are that sick it is a big deal. The dirty bathroom thing really gets me especially when you think of Staph and wet towels, etc. This was my hospital fiasco and hasn't been the first one. I will probably think its silly later, but you all might get a good laugh about it! Kaye
