Guest guest
In reference to the TP/ICT - Eileen wrote: > This is interesting to me. Who are the surgeons that perform this? Are there only a specialized few? And in order for the surgery to be a success, does it have to be done in the early stages?< Eileen, Dr. Sutherland in Minnesota is the inventor of this procedure and is considered the top gun. He's trained other doctor's through the country, though, and hopefully the people that have had the surgery by these other doctors will furnish the names of their surgeons. I'm sorry to admit that I don't know all the other doctor's names. The surgery has been done in Cincinnati, Pittsburg, PA., Chicago, at Hopkins U. Medical Center, somewhere in California, as well as the majority that have been done at the Fairview Medical Center, University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, Minn., by Dr. Sutherland or one of his team members there. It is felt that the TP/ICT is most successful when done early in the patient's medical history, before too many other surgeries have caused too much organ removal or scarring. That's not to say that patients who have had Whipples or Peustows or other surgeries previously would not be good candidates. Each one needs to be reviewed and considered on their own merits. , for example, had two previous surgeries prior to her TP/ICT in Cinncinnati, I believe, or maybe even three....I can't remember, the woman's been in and out of the surgical arena so many times that for her it's been a revolving door...I forget all that she's had done....lol! Most of the other surgeries for SOD, etc., have been done at the Indiana University Medical Center, Hopkins Medical Center, MUSC, Cleveland, Ohio, Cincinnati, Pittsburg, U. of Florida in Gainesville, Chicago, California and Boston. Here too, other members who have had successful surgeries would need to provide us with the names of their surgeons and the specific locations. Not having had any pancreatic surgery done on myself, I'm not a good person to refer to for all the specifics.....lol! I try to keep up with where everybody has gone and what they've had done, but it's become too difficult for an old coon like me to remember. I'm lucky if I can even remember my grocery list, in fact, I can't!!! Each and every item HAS to be written down and crossed off the list or I'll forget something, for sure. I've been forgetting the 6 pack of sugar-free chocolate pudding for the last five grocery trips, it's on todays list but I've had to highlight it with the pink highlighter or else I'll forget it again!! Excuse the levity, I forgot we were discussing some serious business here, but you can see that my mind wanders to what's on MY adgenda for this Monday morning.... Back to the business on hand, I'm sure many of our other member's who've had various surgeries will be happy to comply, right guys??, if they haven't already. I hope this helps, Eileen. If you don't get the information you need, just put what it is in the subject line and that should catch people's eyes. Hope you have a good week ahead. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
Eileen, Dr Sutherland is very cool. You can call him, email him, send him your records, etc. He will review your case. In my case, he prefers we do the whipple first. We would do the whipple with the thought of doing the tp/ict in a year...so to me, it's important he does it all start to finish.I have heard Cinci and Hopkins and MUSC are the other leaders and possibly USC ( I could be wrong on USC)? I talked to them on the phone, I didn't like them at all. I did like Hopkins a lot...and I like Farview. Anyway, the best thing to do is to just call Dr S or drop him an email and see what he says-Kathleen
