Guest guest
My 23 mo-old has been on diet x 3 days - he won't eat chicken soup but has been eating scrambled eggs, roasted chicken, ground beef patty a few carrots and diluted grape juice. i also gave him a little applesauce after 36 hours. anyway, my question is whether i can use the electrolyte solution to dilute the grape juice or must it be drunk straight-up? also, i'm worried about him not getting enough carbohydrates. i don't want to start foods too quickly, but he's so young i wonder if it's good for him to eat so few foods - his stool on day 3 was a little looser than day 2 but still much better than before the diet. i guess i want to strike a balance of not rushing but also adding foods to round out his diet. i am thinking of trying green beans next. any suggestions? Guest guest
I don't see any reason why the electrolyte solution could not be mixed with juice. I agree that your first priority should be introducing new carbs. Be sure to introduce new foods one at a time (each for a few days), starting with a small amount to be sure your know how he is tolerating each individual new food. I know you are impatient, but he will be ok as along as you have both carbs and protein in his diet every day. You might get him to eat more carrots/green beans if you hide them in his eggs by making the sneaky veggie pancakes on www.pecanbread.com. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi hrevelis, <<My 23 mo-old has been on diet x 3 days - he won't eat chicken soup but has been eating scrambled eggs, roasted chicken, ground beef patty a > few carrots and diluted grape juice. i also gave him a little > applesauce after 36 hours. anyway, my question is whether i can use> the electrolyte solution to dilute the grape juice or must it be drunk > straight-up?>> Yes, you can use the electrolyte solution to dilute the grape juice or you can use water to dilute the grape juice. At the beginning of the diet all legal juices should be diluted at least 50%. If you want there is a version of the electrolyte mix made with grape juice at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/63499 <<also, i'm worried about him not getting enough > carbohydrates. i don't want to start foods too quickly, but he's so > young i wonder if it's good for him to eat so few foods>> You can make homemade gelatin (jello) with legal juice and gelatin. - his stool on > day 3 was a little looser than day 2 but still much better than before > the diet. i guess i want to strike a balance of not rushing but also > adding foods to round out his diet. i am thinking of trying green > beans next. any suggestions?>> If you try the green beans you'll want them cooked until very tender and may be even pureed. If you still have some of the chicken broth you can puree carrots or green beans in the broth. Other good options : cooked winter squash (buttercup, acorn or butternut etc..) peeled cooked zucchini, ripe banana, homemade pearsauce.
