Guest guest
Hi All, We started the intro diet Friday, 10-12. He ate 4-5 small chicken pancakes that evening along with the diluted juice & that was it (except diluted juice) until Wednesday evening when we made a smoothie for him using the boiled applesauce, diluted juice, & ice. We are now putting the cooked carrots in the smoothie too but we are beginning to feel as though we have ruined our chance at getting him to eat " regular " food by introducing the smoothies, because now he is holding out for the smoothies. No meat protein since that first day. I've even tried adding honey to the water when cooking carrots (delicious!!), the popcicle recipes, chicken buttons, applesauce buttons, fun shaped pancakes & jello shapes - but he just throws them & gets upset. Should we start withholding the smoothies in an attempt to get him to eat the food we are offering? Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions!! And MANY thanks for all of the previous responses to our questions! This group is a wonderful help because we have no support & live in a very rural area. Thanks again! Guest guest
You can try the smoothie style diet with him using the intro foods and then the later stage foods. As he heals he may get less pickyer as we found that this diet helped with sensory issues. As the sensory issues improved, my boys seem to be ok with foods they would have thrown off their plate. Try putting small pieces of chicken beside him when you serve the smoothie. I cut the food up small and served it on toothpicks. I always made sure the food was moist too. I would sometime soak the cut up chicken in the broth to make it moister. I did this too with little meat balls. Smoothie style is actually a great way to get a variety of foods into your child. Just make sure all fruits and vegetables are peeled seeded and well cooked. You can add the eggs, chicken, beef, and other meats to smoothies too. My boys would only let me serve them one thing for their meal. We are now up to three items on their plate at each meal. I am actually now trying to get them to try smoothies so we can get some more veggies into them. Good luck Cindy Mom to and 4 year old twins born at 28 weeks almost healed and is making gains everyday. (THANKS TO SCD!)
