I know that this seems like an odd thing odd, I just turned thirty

this last May but since High School I have attempted to work whenever

possible. About two years ago I had to give up worrking all together

because of the severe attacks of Pancreatis that kept reoccuring, I

had also had my seziure disorder reoccer for the first time in 28

years. I am now in the appeals proccess because I was denied once .

Has this happened to any of you!

I'm on SSDI and it all comes down to the amount of medical

documentation you have, the amount of credits you have paid into the

system, and lastly if your illness is on the SSA's list.

When I first applied I was prepared for refusals and all, but got my

check in two weeks. Made me feel weird as I knew of people who were

severly ill who were being denied.

Believe it or not, I just turned 30 in May as well and have been having

attacks since I was 27. I have not been able to work for about 2

years. I applied for disability earlier this year and though I was

told there was a good chance I would get it, when the person handling

my case found out that I had not been diagnosed yet, his tone changed

and I soon received a denial. I was told in the denial letter that it

was because my weight has remained steady enough in the past year for

me to be able to work (never mind I am 108 pounds and 5'10 " !), but I

think the lack of diagnosis is the problem for me. They didn't even

wait to receive my records from the specialist I have been seeing

through most of this! I was very disappointed.

So yes, this has happened to me too...but in my case I think it's my

lack of diagnosis?? I didn't appeal yet.

Good luck.

e,

Certainly, I would think that it's the lack of a diagnosis and

supporting medical, hospital, lab and radiological documentation

that's responsible for your denial. Most of us folks that have

received our SSDI have thousands of pages of paperwork backing up our

claims. It's the rare cases where catastrophic medical events have

allowed people to get their disability on the first attempt. Most of

us have had multiple hospitalizations, seen several different doctors,

and have had years of documented chronic pancreatitis with extended

periods of unemployment before we even applied for disability, and we

were turned down, appealed, and turned down again. 50% of the people

that get their SSDI don't even get it until their case goes to court.

While you've been having problems for three years, and almost two

years of being unable to work, without confirmed diagnosis' of what

your problem is, most likely the agency won't listen to you until

you've gotten the medical documentation to back up your disability

claim. Even then, this is a very difficult " condition " to prove.

Since chronic pancreatitis isn't even a disease, or listed as one, it

takes a lot of medical testing and substanciation to prove that it

exists, and that it has become so disabiling that you can't function

in any capacity to handle ANY type of work. You have to prove not

only that you can't do what you used to do in employment, but also

that you can't do any other type of work, too.

I realize that you only have 30 days in which to appeal from the first

denial, but I would urge that you get a confirmed medical diagnosis

from your specialist, and as much hospital, lab, radiology and other

doctor's documentation that states your impairments as soon as you can.

Good luck!

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi

Thanks Heidi. Good advice. Until then, I am looking into work at

home opportunities.
