Guest guest
Just out of curiosity, has anyone listed extreme weight loss as a medical condition when applying for disability? I'm curious because I have lost about 75 lbs. in the last 18 months and my weight is continuing to drop. Jerry/NC
Guest guest
Hi Jerry- I am waiting for an appeal (actually called a hearing) for SSDI, I got turned down the first time in June. Anyway, weight loss is one of the conditions listed by my doctor and attorney (I retained him when I got my denial) on his letter/form...that I have dropped nearly 100 pounds since I started this road of CP, gained some (like 15) and then dropped 35 pounds again last winter. My attorney and my doctor both seem to think it will help to list the weight loss. I don't think it would hurt to list it as a condition...and maybe they will realize just how bad CP can be. I am no expert though...just my two cents worth! Hugs, Suzi B. Colorado
Guest guest
Jerry, The weight loss has to be in connection with a legitimate health impairment. There is one there for malnutrition connected to GI disorders or diabetes, but the way they judge it is by a scale. For example, if remember it right, a woman with a height of 5'-8 " would have had to weight less than 107 pounds for three months or more. BTW, a woman who's 5'-8 " and weighs less than 107 lbs. looks like a skeleton. I did!! I don't remember what the men's requirements were, but I'm sure they are just as bad. I qualified for it, and listed it in with my other real impairments, and don't know whether they considered it or not. You'd have to go to the section in the list of impairments to see what a man your height would qualify for. If you don't know how to find it, just let me know and I'll get it for you. I used to know all that stuff as well as I know my street address. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth hhessgriffeth@... SC and SE Regional Rep Pancreatitis Association, Intl.
