Guest guest
Karyn, thanks for the info. Having both liver disease and pancreatitis often makes people even more likely to assume that I must be an alcoholic. I've had more than one person in the medical field ask me how I 'caught' AUTOIMMUNE hepatitis! It is scary when even doctors and nurses do not understand the meaning of the word 'autoimmune'. For those who don't know, autoimmune basically means that ones own immune system is attacking all or part of the body as if it were a foreign substance. Also, the word 'hepatitis' simply means inflamed liver. People often think only of viral hepatitis, particularly hepatitis C when they hear the word hepatitis. By the way, even if I were an alcoholic, it would not mean I was any less deserving of the best medical care available. It is sometimes frustrating for me because I have never really cared for alcohol. I just don't like the taste. Before pancreatitis and autoimmune hepatitis, I might have 4-6 drinks in a year - the sweet drinks that you couldn't taste the alcohol in. Oh, well, at least it wasn't hard to give up alcohol completely. thanks again for sharing the info. W
