Guest guest
Hi, Burn out can take many years, even decades, and it doesn't always happen anyway. It occurs when the pancreas has simply stopped functioning. My understanding is that patients with full burn-out will have neither the exocrine (digestive) function nor the endocrine (insulin) function of their pancreas. They will be diabetic and totally reliant on enzymes to complete their digestion. It has been suggested by one of my doctors (gastro) that I may be near burn-out as my pain is usually less than it used to be, but I'm not sure. I follow a Creon/low fat/no alcohol regime now which is likely to be helping me anyway. I also follow a gluten-free diet as I'm coeliac as well. I can't know if I would have been less ill at an earlier stage if I had been following all elements of this regime. Fliss (UK)
