Guest guest
Hi, It's me again. I just wanted to run this by folks and see if it sounded normal. Myself and my 18mo. old are doing fine on the diet. My ASD 34 mo. old is not. He woke up on the 3rd day of the intro diet (yesterday) gagging. This gagging happened again a few hours later, and then about 1/2 hour later he threw up. It was all white and foamy??!! He also felt warm and was all red in the face, but when I took his temp. it was perfectly normal. After that he went to sleep for 2 hours. Most of the day he sat in a chair, or played quietly. He was also extremely agitated towards his sister. Then he took another 2 hour nap. This is very unusual for my fast-paced, non-napping, friendly little guy. Yesterday he drank water all day, but wouldn't touch anything but a few bites of cold eggs. Last night I introduced the first new food- very ripe bananas. I blended frozen bananas, a touch of grape juice (maybe 2tsp. at most), 1 tsp. of honey with water and his enzymes. He drank ALL of it. Today- same thing with diet, he'll eat a bite of eggs or chicken-but not anything substantial. He WILL drink the banana shakes though. However he is much more himself, no longer red, and no longer gagging at all. He is just perhaps more prone to cry still. Is he ok drinking the banana shakes for right now? (water, bananas, little honey, and enzymes) I offer the other food first. Is this what yeast die-off looks like?? (I went through pain med withdrawal about 10 years ago for my nerve disorder and it was eerily similar to how he acted.) Thanks for any help! Guest guest
Hi Tonja. I went through what I think was a yeast die-off which had me throwing up some nasty white foamy stuff and really sick and irritable for about 36 hours. Your son's behavior and naps and whatnot sound pretty consistant with die off to me. I wouldn't worry too much about his lack of appetite. That should pick up the more and more he heals. Ripe bananas were (well, still are) a savior to my son who couldn't tolerate much at all in the beginning. Many kids live on nothing but pureed foods in the beginning, lots of smoothies, popsicles etc, whatever you can do to keep food in em. You might find as you progress to new foods that you can sneak the foods into those banana shakes, even a little pureed vegetable and/or meat. K Dayton, Ohio, USA SCD since June 2006, redid intro June 2007 Myself and 2 kids are SCD, hubby is ever so slowly transitioning to it. Conditions we are treating successfully with SCD: Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (autoimmune), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, IBS, ADD, ADHD, chronic diarrhea, yeast/candida, and salicylate intolerance. Guest guest
Hi Tonja, Yes, this does sound like die off. Epsom salt baths may help Please have a look at http://pecanbread.com/new/temporarysymptoms.html the directions for epsom salt baths are at the bottom of the page. Guest guest
Thank you and Sheila! I have read the pecanbread website backwards and forwards, but I was still feeling nervous. It was scary to see someone so little acting so strange. He's doing much better toady, but still totally obsessed with bananas. At least he's getting in some stuff. I did use some epsom salt cream on him, and that did seem to help. He can't bathe yet, as he has one more week in his cast. (Broken foot from jumping off a chair.) Thank you so much for your reassurance!! Tonja
Guest guest
What I have learned about starting this diet comes from my immediate family. All of us could talk and explain how we were feeling, so I hope this helps you gain some insight as to what is happening with your son. When we went on SCD, we had gut cramping, headaches, joint pain and cold symptoms that came and went. Lots of mucus in our noses and stools, lots of feeling really crappy. For me, the gut cramping was the worst. It really hurt. I knew that the gut bugs would give me die off, but I never expected it to hurt. It did. Sometimes I would sleep for hours after I went to the bathroom. Now I think that part of what happens is that the mucus inside the gut not only protects the open sores, but it also deadens the pain. When the mucus and opiods started to leave our bodies, what we felt was what was always there, minus the pain killers. The difference is that on the diet, the irritation started to heal. Healing makes everything hurt less, for real. It was well worth it. Evenstar wrote: Hi, It's me again. I just wanted to run this by folks and see if it sounded normal.
