Hi , epidurals are great. You will feel your legs and you will

even be able to stand up and walk if you are so inclined or made to

by the nursing staff. It is the same type of block they use when

woman have babies and we all know they can still push. You will also

have an IV or central line. Those decisions are usually made by the

surgeon and the anesthesiologist. But you certainly do have a voice

in that.

I have assisted anes. docs put in 100's of epidurals and when I had

the total I had both the epidural and the PCA pump. Dont worry so

much about the post op pain. The docs want you to be as comfortable

as possible. Now I am not going to tell you it wont hurt. It will

and the first time you have to stand up you will feel it for sure.

But just keep pushing the button on the PCA pump everytime you need

it. Instead of worrying about the post op pain focus your attention

on how you will feel once you have recovered. No more panc pain!!

Thats the goal right. Focus on the positive the long term goal.

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know. Oh and send

me your last name I can call the hospital ask for your room and check

up on you, well a few days after the surgery when your feeling up to

it.

Warmly,
