Guest guest
Hello everyone, I have been off work since Tues. Went to my PCP yesterday for severe headache & she prescribed maxalt-MLT for migraine & phenergan 25mg. for nausea. The Maxalt seemed to work initially & the phenergan knocked me out for 24 hours!!!! No joke. I can still feal the effects of it. Any way, my gallbladder surgery is coming up in a little over a week & I mentioned to her going off on disability until a few weeks after the surgery & she said & I quote " You will feal better if you go to work " . NOT!!!! Now, I have been working & putting up with pain, even tried to go off of pain med. unsuccesfully. When I went to work on Monday the office manager was being a total B word to me. She is very moody & very two faced & plays alot of mind games with the staff. She usually leaves me alone but I was the only one there to pick on that day. When I left the office I thought to myself " I wouldn't put up with this if I were well, let alone when I feal like crap " . Well needless to say I called in sick on Tues. & the rest of the week. To tell you the truth, I don't ever want to go back. Looking back now I am wondering what ever made me think I could work under such stressful conditions again. I tend to be very hard headed & sometimes have to learn things the hard way. I would rather scrub toilets than go back to that place! The thing that bothers me is my boss (the owner), is a sweetheart of a man & like a Father to me. The office manager tends to manipulate him so he doesn't see what goes on. Don't get me wrong, he is not stupid but she hides alot of the childishness from him. I would really like to go in next week & when & if she starts in on me, really let her have it then walk out. The other side of me wants to never go back & just tell them I am too sick & have to go back on disability. I think my G.I. doc would agree & fill out the forms for me. Any feed back any of you have would be greatly appreciated. Take care, K.
Guest guest
I could be wrong, but your surgeon will most likely not give you a release to go back to work until 4-8 weeks after the surgery. Most of the people that I know who had galbladder surgery by laparoscope were out a minimum of 4 weeks and one person was even out close to 12 weeks I think. It all depends on your recovery and the philosophy of the surgeon but most will not release you until you do your first follow-up visit and that is usually 2 weeks after the surgery (some have you come in the first week - especially if the procedure was done as an out-patient one). So I would think you can have a short break before you have to make up your mind about your job. My understanding is that getting disability from the government or your workplace is pretty darn hard and takes a long time. However, you may want to consider applying for family medical leave...this would give you more days off without hassles (but may not be paid depending on your earned time off bank). This is much, much easier to get than disability but there is a limit to how many hours you can use in a calendar year I think. laurie
