Guest guest
Hi! My son has been on SCD since the middle of August and made dramatic improvements in attention and focus. Much of his stimming went away as well. Now, he is on an antibiotic for lyme's disease, and the yeast is AWFUL even with Diflucan and Sacc. B. on board. (Sacc B. 12 hours away from Diflucan) Every behavior is back that went away: destroying things, mouthing things. waking up at 5:00 AM laughing at nothing, etc. I have read everything there is to read on this web site about yeast. I started looking at what foods feed yeast after reading on a lyme website to avoid **simple sugars** to curb yeast while he is on antibiotics. Much of what he is eating on SCD are the worst offenders in feeding yeast: bananas, apples, grape juice, olives, etc. Even nuts are supposed to be avoided on a standard anti-yeast diet due to mold. He weighed in at 45 lbs. last February and is down to 42.5 pounds after being on SCD. This concerns us greaty. I understand that what we are trying to accomplish at this point is to give him the things he can digest as easily as possible and to starve out bad bacteria, but how much is this diet intended to help the yeast issue overall???? Is it really only bad bacteria we are starving out because for him, yeast is just as bad of a problem. We went into this assuming that we were starving out yeast AND bad bacteria, but this is clearly not the case. I know that cutting out bananas and other fruits until this calms down would be a good idea, but if I omit the above foods from his diet, he will starve. He rarely even eats honey. He loved raw veggies before we started this, and now he will hardly eat veggies at all (although I just revived squash fries last night and he ate them ut of house and home. He was refusing them for a while there.) I know that much of this is a hump b/c of the lyme, because the gains he has made on this diet have been tremendous. I probably just need a pep talk. It is just extremely frustrating. He WAS an awesome eater, and now he is incredibly picky and won't even eat his old favorites (like certain meats) that were SCD legal even before we started all of this. I bought 4 SCD cookbooks and make a lot of the recipes I see on-line. Also, his diaper had formed stool 7 times in a row since week 2 and them went back to slop WAY before this antibiotic thing, and we have never been able to get the good poops back. Thanks for reading. We are definitely sticking this out until after the antibiotics are done, but God knows whether or ot he will be able to get rid of this lyme with all of his other immune system issues. Guest guest
Hi there, I'm sorry I can't be more of a beacon of light as we have the same issues with our son. Although not confirmed through testing, I suspect a yeast problem. He is a very picky eater and will only eat 3-4 foods. Also like your son, our son ate better before going on the diet, veggies, etc.. Now he is down to apples, almond flour muffins, grilled cheese sandwiches (we have moved on to dairy with no problems) and SCD legal ice cream made from egg whites. I just wanted to let you know that we also have had a weight yo-yo with different foods being refused on this diet. The thing that finally got the meat to stick to his bones was the ice cream I mentioned. It's the recipe from the Healing Little Tummies cookbook. I took the recipe and added ground up chicken and he can't taste it. I have been warned by my SCD consultant that raw egg whites can lead to something called a biotin deficiency. Unfortunately, I felt I had no choice but to continue to feed him the ice cream because the benefits far outweighed any negative things. Just hang in there. Even though it seems frustrating, to me there is no alternative. Have you tried the yogurt. I would greatly recommend paying the extra for an SCD consultant. YOu can email me directly off my website for a personal recommendation. Thanks and good luck. www.healingelijah.com mrsstanko wrote: Hi! Guest guest
Hi there, Also, I forgot to add that when we eliminated bananas, Elijah seemed to benefit. He still eats apples. www.healingelijah.com mrsstanko wrote: Hi! My son has been on SCD since the middle of August and made dramatic improvements in attention and focus. I even had to be careful with some veggies (couldn't eat carrots or squash for a while). I started cooking the carrots until they were super tender (ie. Are you using either the yogurt or a legal probiotic? If these aren't tolerated now you could try the fermented veggies or the fermeted juice from them to encourage good bacteria to help keep the level of yeast down. <<<<<He weighed in at 45 lbs. last February and is down to 42.5 pounds > after being on SCD. You can either supplement (it is part of most multis and B complexes) or get it from a varied diet. Food sources of Biotin: " Excellent sources of biotin include chard, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and carrots. Very good sources include almonds, chicken eggs, onions, cabbage, cucumber, and cauliflower. Good sources ... raspberries, strawberries, halibut, oats, and walnuts. " from http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=42 Cooking the egg whites neutralizes the avidin. Guest guest
For that cool vanilla ice cream recipe that contain raw eggs: Can the egg whites/yolks be whipped in a double-boiler before the rest of the ingredients are added? I have made this ice cream recipe twice and was a little wigged out about the raw eggs. Maybe if the entire mixture is cooled down BEFORE it goes into the ice cream maker, it will cool down. If anyone has ever tried his experiment, please let me know. I think I am going to give it a shot.

Taking either the diflucan or S. boulardii with the antibiotic should help some. If you aren't taking anything at bedtime taking the yeast enzyme then would be best. It depends on what kind you use. I alays played it safe and took yogurt as far away from the enzymes as possible. Between doses of your antibiotics is good. How much probiotic are you using /day?
