Guest guest
Have been reading Elaine's book, as well as the website, but still am confused about some things. Hope someone can help. Am I correct that the Intro Diet is followed by the Stages? Stage 1 is NOT the Intro diet? Given that Elaine says we can use home-made mayo for devilled eggs in the Intro diet, does that mean we can also include the ingredients of the mayo in the diet? In other words, we can freely use oil, salt and pepper, say to cook our eggs or spice them up? Does the hamburger have to come from hormone-free, grass fed beef, or can we use any supermarket ground beef? Same question for the chicken and the eggs. Does the ground beef have to be cooked to any particular degree of doneness? Does it matter if the hamburger is lean, extra-lean or regular chuck? Can the skin of the chicken or turkey be eaten? Does it matter is it's white meat or dark meat poultry? Many thanks. Judy
Guest guest
Hi Judy, <<<Have been reading Elaine's book, as well as the website, but still am confused about some things. Hope someone can help. > > Am I correct that the Intro Diet is followed by the Stages? Stage 1 is NOT the Intro diet?>>> Stage 1 is not the intro diet. The stages are a guide to help with the introduction of food. They were designed to give people an idea on how to gradually introduce food. <<<<< Given that Elaine says we can use home-made mayo for devilled eggs in the Intro diet>>>> We are working out if the mayo is really okay for the intro. It may be a typo. If you are having a lot of GI symptoms you may want to avoid the mayo as fat is difficult for a damaged gut to digest. <<<<does that mean we can also include the ingredients of the mayo in the diet? In other words, we can freely use oil, salt and pepper, say to cook our eggs or spice them up?>>>> Salt is okay. Pepper and oil should be avoided if having symptoms on the intro. After the intro try a little of each to see how you are with each. <<<<Does the hamburger have to come from hormone-free, grass fed beef, or can we use any supermarket ground beef? Same question for the chicken and the eggs. >>>> All are legal as long as they have no illegals added to them. <<< Does the ground beef have to be cooked to any particular degree of doneness?>>> For the intro grilled is the only guideline, but for safety sake it should be cooked until 160°F. from http://www.txbeef.org/food_safety.php3 <<<<Does it matter if the hamburger is lean, extra-lean or regular chuck?>>> On the intro less fat is best, especially if u have symptoms. <<< Can the skin of the chicken or turkey be eaten?>>> For the intro Elaine wrote to toss the skins. <<<> Does it matter is it's white meat or dark meat poultry?>>> No, both are fine. <<< > Many thanks. > > Judy>>> Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
