Guest guest
my second attack landed me in the hospital for a week on morphine. While being scared out of my mind thinking this may be it, the on call dr, upset at someone or something accused me of being a drunk and told me if i didn't come clean and tell the truth i would die. you know what' i'm in a hospital bed with the worst kind of pain the human body can indure before going into shock, if i were a drunk belive me i'd come clean. after pressing me for about 25 minutes he said " look i've seen them come in on friday night and be dead on sunday morning with this crap " ever since then it's been on my mind every day.....how does one plan a life around being told that?? One learns to ignore it. Some doctors have no compassion and they think that anyone who comes into the ER with our type of complaints is just a drug seeker. So they brush us off, or try to get the patient to admit to being something they aren't. Go to a different hospital next time, or call your specialist first, and have him admit you himself or call the ER and let them know you're on your way in. You can't let the ignorance of others control your life. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC and SE Regional Rep. Guest guest
Well put, Heidi. You either learn to develop a thick skin with this disease, or others' ignorance becomes very hard to tolerate. Most physicians have a very poor understanding of this disease. Rather than admit their own foibles, it's easier to call you a drunk or a druggie.
