Guest guest
Hi I just read the list of allowed foods and it says smoked bacon is allowed once a week. What about unsmoked bacon?

The issue here is the sugar in smoked meats. If your bacon does not have sugar or other illegals, then you don't have to limit it to once a week. Remember that " honey " on a label may be the kind mixed with sugar or corn syrup, so you can't trust " honey " on a label to be sugar- free. The ability to eat bacon with sugar once a week does not apply to ASD kids. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Thanks I am giving him unsmoked bacon a few times a week for breakfast. I read somewhere on the site that bacon is an advanced food but I can't find out why (is this for smoked bacon containing sugars?). What is the advice for autistic kids regarding this? Guest guest
Hi, , The caution about bacon and beginners is due to possible trouble digesting the large amount of fat. If you've been giving it and he tolerates it in the amount you are giving, then you are fine. The autistic kids should not have the sugar (even once a week) and nitrites, though legal, are not good for anyone, so that makes it tough to find any bacon at all. I think you have found the best solution. mom to -12 SCd 4/23/
