Hi

I have allowed my son a small box of raisins(14g)as an occasional

treat although he has only been on the SCD for 6 wks(at a couple of

birthday parties he went to recently as a substitute for birthday cake)

I am worried as he has been invited to another party at the weekend

and that he may expect raisins again-I was wondering if by cooking

them for an hour or so it would make them more digestible.

We love raisins as an easy on-the-go snack. We've found no problems

with using SunMaid or store brand.

Hi, Majidha,

Dried fruits like raisins give the gut a sudden, highly-concentrated

dose of fruit sugar and should not be introduced until all GI symptoms

are gone. I would feel more comfortable if you made him some of the

lollypops or Magic Toffee from the BTVC recipe section.

Boiling the raisins would probably eliminate some of the sugar, but I

don't know if it would be enough.

Boiling them will make them a little easier to digest because it adds

water (which slows down the rate of absorption). But they still have

hard to digest skins and some varities have seeds.

Does he have any change in symptoms whwn he eats raisins?
