It has been many years since I have heard of anyone doing this, and

from what I was told then (about 1999) that it doesn't work, and they

will grow back with scar tissue and be worse. That is my only

experience with it. I asked for everything I could think of only to be

told we can't do that, it won't help.

It is not the celiac nerves, it is the splanchnic nerves in the back

they make 6 cuts in your back and sever them./ Foe soem there is a

70 percent success rate

So if your insurance covers it , it would be wortha shot. I amd not

sure if it helpe dme. But I think that mayeb it must have as I was

bed bound and unable to work befor eit,now I still have terrrible

pain, but i think it may have been a whole lot worse wihtout it.

I had it done in 1999. I wa sthe first her ein New Zealand-

Hi Cindy: I get this done, however they haven't decided to

actually " cut " the nerves yet. But what I get is a celiac block which

is where they inject anesthetics in the hopes of anesthetizing the

neural pathway that leads to/from the pancreas so that the

pain " signal " isn't experienced by the brain. At least that's my

understanding of it. Maybe somebody else can elaborate further on it

than I can. The reason my pain mgmt doctor won't do the one whereby

the " kill " the nerves to the pancreas is (a) because I am not getting

fantastic relief from the one he's doing using the anesthetics, and

(B) because the nerves DO grow back and back comes the pain

eventually. So, it will buy you some time if you react to it well but

it won't be permanent relief. Usually (at least the way my doctor

operates) they will suggest the celiac block first and if you get good

results from that then they will opt for the procedure whereby the

actual nerves are " killed. "

Hope that helps....
