Guest guest
It has been many years since I have heard of anyone doing this, and from what I was told then (about 1999) that it doesn't work, and they will grow back with scar tissue and be worse. That is my only experience with it. I asked for everything I could think of only to be told we can't do that, it won't help. Guest guest
Hi Cindy: I get this done, however they haven't decided to actually " cut " the nerves yet. But what I get is a celiac block which is where they inject anesthetics in the hopes of anesthetizing the neural pathway that leads to/from the pancreas so that the pain " signal " isn't experienced by the brain. At least that's my understanding of it. Maybe somebody else can elaborate further on it than I can. The reason my pain mgmt doctor won't do the one whereby the " kill " the nerves to the pancreas is (a) because I am not getting fantastic relief from the one he's doing using the anesthetics, and ( because the nerves DO grow back and back comes the pain eventually. So, it will buy you some time if you react to it well but it won't be permanent relief. Usually (at least the way my doctor operates) they will suggest the celiac block first and if you get good results from that then they will opt for the procedure whereby the actual nerves are " killed. " Hope that helps.... > hi everyone, > has anyone here heard of or had a procedure where the > nerves to the pancres are cut to stop pain?how common is this > procedure? the reason i'm asking is the only 2 people i have found in > my area with pancreatitis have had this done.one lady is from this > board(patty?) the other from my husbands work.since i may be looking > for a new gi doctor,my hubby wants me to see the one his co-worker > sees.i told him they probaly only do this procedure on people who's > pain can't be controlled any other way(medications ect...) is this > true?any info will be appreciated!!! hope all is well today. > thanks,Cindy
