Guest guest
hi all, perhaps i am little nieve or maybe a lot, but do any of you feel like there may be a potential help in the future through stem cells? i know its a long way off, but it seems one of the major ills they often bring up in discussing the more immediate uses for stem cell therapy is diabetes, and this involves the pancreas right? I even read about a study/experiment,i think it was done in S Korea or something, involving the use of adult bone marrow stem cells in mice that inhibited the onset of acute pancreatitis when clincally induced. Anyone else read this? sorry if this is well trodden territory for the group, but i am new here afterall. beau
Guest guest
Beau, I absolutely do think there may be help for pancreatitis from stem cells in the future. There are already research projects using the patient's own stem cells to repair liver damage and avoid the need for a liver transplant. The things I've read about the research is that it is showing some very promising results. They have also used stem cells to totally cure two sisters in TN who had systemic lupus and were terminally ill because of the damage lupus had done to their kidneys and to the heart of one sister. I think it is very reasonable to believe that in our lifetime, stem cells may have the potential to cure many, many illnesses, so why not pancreatitis?
