Breastfeeding and flare question

I'm currently having a bit of a flare. I think its affecting my milk

supply. I wanted to know what methods I can take to increase my milk

supply that are compliant with this diet. For example, is fenugreek ok?

What about a glass of wine? I'm trying to drink more water and I'm

starting to pump after each feeding. Any other things out there that I

can try. I've been doing really well for the first 3 months. I really

don't want to have to give it up so soon. Please, any help is greatly

appreciated.

Hi ,

Sounds like you have started the three-month flair

Elaine mentions in BTVC. You will feel better on the

other side of it.

I don't know anything about breastfeeding, but

fenugreek is not legal.

I'm sure others will answer with suggestions for what

you can do.

Sorry, fenugreek is illegal. I used to have a cup of hot liquid (tea,

hot water and honey, apple cider and water warmed up with or without

cinnamon stick) as often as possible or at least a glass of water or

juice each time I breastfed (the hot before or after putting the baby

down).

Cinnamon, dill, garlic and anise are used as milk boosters and are

legal. from

http://www.babycenter.ca/baby/breastfeeding/breastfeedingdiet/

However, if the problem is your flare be caeful we these until you are

sure that aren't making you worse.

I sometimes found my milk production would wax and wane depending on if

the babies were going through growth spurts or not.

<<<<What about a glass of wine?>>>>

I have heard that wine relaxes you and helps some breast feed easier I

don't know if it willl increase your milk. (I have no idea if this is

valid or not). The website above comments on alcohol use while

breastfeeding. If your milk is low because of a flare I think the best

thing would be to get out of the flare - I don't know if wine would

help get you out of a flare or make it worse and thus reduce your milk

further.

What foods are you eating? You may want to go to a basic diet or the

intro to speed up things. If you get well fast that should help bolster

your milk supply.

Thank you for your repsonses. I think part of the problem is my

schedule has been a little off kilter due to my husband being off

from work and my mom coming to visit. For some reason whenever I have

guests I cannot seem to relax! I'm going back to the intro and being

a little kinder to my stomach by eating very plainly. Hopefully it

will get things under control in a few days. I think also when my mom

was here I wasn't eating and drinking enough. Spent too much time

chatting and not paying attention to myself.

As far as the wine is there anything I should avoid? Ie. sulfites,

etc? I do not know much about wines, but what wines are considered

dry? Is pinot grigio a dry wine? What about savignon blanc? What red

wines are dry? I would really only drink a glass a day, whcih is

considered fine by breastfeeding standards. But I will make sure that

it isn't making things worse. Thanks!

I drink red wine occasionally. (I like Rothchild's Mouton Cadet's

Cab. Sauv.)

I like this site to see if the wines locally are legal or not.

http://www.nbliquor.com/prod-search.asp You enter " 00 " into the

sugar content and select what type of wine you want it will give you

a list of wines. I go with a list in hand and see what wines are

available at my local liquor store.

Did you see on the website I mentioned before (breastfeeding)

http://www.babycenter.ca/baby/breastfeeding/breastfeedingdiet/ that

it suggests to leave the alcohol until after the evening's last

feeding. Alcohol may go through your breastmilk 30-90 minutes after

feeding and waiting until after the last feeding allows your body to

metabolize it.
