Guest guest
Hi Heidi, Thanks for your message. Very interesting indeed. I was told that they prefer to try medical means to remove polyps first, partly because the things often come back anyway. The steroids are supposed to resolve them and help you regain a better sense of smell, clearer breathing etc. They have certainly helped the smell/taste to come back. Of course I only have another 5 days, on a lower dose, to go for the tablets. I stay on the steroid drops for three months. I'm aware about the danger for diabetics but I'm not actually diabetic yet. I have to say that, on the info paper in the box, there are also warnings to be careful if one has osteoporosis (I have) and that a possible side effect is inflammation of the pancreas. Having said that, the list of such possible side effects is so long that I'm amazed anyone ever takes them at all. I have thought about being especially careful because you're absolutely right.....I'm not 14, I only feel it on these tablets! And they're low dose too! In some ways it makes m sad because I know I haven't felt this well in years. I'm not looking forward to the withdrawal symptoms! It's all perfectly unexpected as well. I had only expected the results for my nose! I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. My smell/taste had gone too until I was given a steroid nasal spray in August. It has helped the left side but not the right. The ENT doc decided I needed a more aggressive treatment now. Funnily enough, I had just read an article in the paper by a young mother who, on finding she had nearly served " off " fish to her children, decided the time had come to do something about being unable to smell anything. They found polyps and she followed the steroid drops treatment. She said she will never have a job as a " nose " for a wine merchant, but at least her children are safe now! The only downside is that I now simply can't bear to wear my favourite perfume. It was just the very slightest hint of scent in my (left) nostril before. Now it is just overpowering! I'd forgotten what it was like! My son, , home with his lovely new fiancee, told me at the weekend that he hoped, now that my sense of smell was coming back, that I intended to cease my attempts to poison the family with " Opium " !! Well, off topic really....except that the steroids are helping everything else as well! Love to you and hope things are going well.
