Hello;

My wife had a stent for three months. She was happy with her stent and she had a

considerable pain relief with it. When we went to her doctor

after three months, he said that he had to take it out. At first we argued and

asked him to leave it in or replace it with a new one. However he said that it

would be a medical mistake which he would not do.

In my wife's case, her pancreas head area is obstructed with pancreatic stones.

This may be the reason why she had some relief with the stent. Her doctor send

us to ESWL operation before taking the stent out. She had an ESWL session with

1500 shock waves. After ESWL , her doctor performed 2 ERCPs to take the stent

and the broken stones out. This was the first time we saw the pieces of her

pancreatic stones. Doctor keeps the stone pieces for further analyses.

2 ERCPs and 1 ESWL was performed last week. We are back at home and she has some

pain and she is a little bit tired. We believe it is because of the ERCPs. She

does not have any stent at the moment. I hope she will have some more pain

relief after so much stone particules are out of her body.

Eventhough the discussion is still going on for the use of ESWL on pancreatic

stones, I could not see any negative conclusion on the papers that I read in the

internet. So ESWL may help for the ones whose stones are the reason for CP and

can not be extracted with several ERCPs.
