I did Sara's Diet with my son and daughter many years ago.

I found it to be very helpful. Many years later, I tried SCD.

I think that SCD is so much better! Gut microbes produce all the issues

of ASD children:

Since SCD eliminates the gut pathogens it eliminates the issues that other diets

try to address.

Hi ,

The website for Sara's diet blames the over active immune system for

causing many of the problems of autism.

It seems that the goal of Sara's diet is to reduce the over active

immune system by reducing lutein containing foods.

I think that another approach for calming the immune system would be

to eliminate the gut bacteria that produce the toxins that provoke the

immune response. SCD starves the bacteria.

LPS, a very common bacterial toxin,

plays a key role in the development of autoimmune syndrome.

" There are many research articles that state that LPS plays a key

role in the development of autoimmune syndrome. The influence of LPS

is so powerful that it can even overcome genetics. Even mice who are

genetically resistant to autoimmunity may develop autoimmune diseases

if they are given a high dose of LPS. "

To understand how doing SCD might reduce LPS and other bacterial toxins:

Hi Mimi - we agree that naturally healing the gut with diet and

nutrition therapy is central to the work of bringing about long-

lasting improvements in people with autism and related conditions. So

many of the people that come to us have had good results with the SCD

and there are so many similarities to the Sara's Diet approach. I am

glad to work together to promote a natural healing approach.

I believe that we are both very close to understanding the root

causes of these new immuno-neuro-gastrological conditions that are

causing so much distress to so many people. It seems to us that there

is a self-perpetuating cycle of immune imbalance, gut pathogen

imbalance, stress and toxicity and it may not matter where we begin

to try and break the cycle. Healing is a long and complicated

process, but we insist that natural balanced methods that promote

detoxification, destressing, calming the immune system and healing

the digestive system can work in harmony to bring about the best

results.
