Guest guest
Hi Janet, I know the waiting list goes by state even though SSD is a federal program. I waited at least a year, probably a year and a half. I called my Congressman, Bernie (Vermont), and his constituent advocate had Bernie write a letter to the Office of Hearing and Appeals on my behalf. The letter stated that he was interested in my case and to expedite it and to keep his office updated on the status of my case. I received a registered letter one week after my Congressman's letter was sent and I had a court date about 1 month later. In Vermont, the case load was so backed up that they called in a judge from New Hampshire and one from Mass. to help alleviate the backlog. I hope this helps you out. Guest guest
Janet, It depends on what state you live in, and how busy the SSDI offices are. It took me 6 months to get a hearing date. The entire process, from my very first application, first denial, resubmission, second denial, appeal, hearing date, and then first payment received, took over two years, or 26 months, to be exact. Guest guest
Hi Jim, Janet, and others in process with SSID, It appears that many of the states are severely backlogged. My attorney warned me about SC's backlog. As an example, even though my judge verbally approved my case the second week in January 2005, it did not go through the payment review committee so that the funds could be dispersed until SIX months later. That's why it took seven months for the check to come after the case was approved. Jim - I wrote to my Congressman, too, asking for assistance in speeding things up, especially since he had a webpage entirely devoted to himself and how hard he helped disabled people seeking assistance in obtaining their SSDI benefits. Do you know he actually wrote me back, refusing to help, saying that it would be " illegal " for him to do so, because I was already represented by a disability attorney? Sounds hokey, to me. That's one man who WON'T get my vote next month!! With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
