Guest guest
I think going for the least invasive approach is a wise move. When you talk with Dr. L about the repetative stenting talk to him about those hormone injections he mentioned. I am guessing, but think he was referring to Octreotide (sandostantin). It is a hormone that communicates with the pancreas and can help it decrease its production, thus decreasing the pain. I was on the LAR, once a month injection and it helped a lot. It did not take the pain away but certainly lessened it. Perhaps this with the stenting may help. I was on it for several months then got frustrated because I was still having pain so I refused it. Within 6v weeks I was begging for another injection. It did help. The transduodenal sphincteroplasty is a surgical procedure used to treat SOD. Do you know exactly where your sticture lie? There is another surgical procedure for ductal issues. The Peustow. Basically it filets the pancreas down the middle and attaches the main pancreatic duct directly to the intestinal wall. That way there is no interruption in drainage. If your stricture is primarily in the head of the pancreas the surgeon may suggest a Whipple or Beger procedure. Fromw hat I have read recently the Beger, or organ sparing whipple, is being performed more frequently. There is less likelihood of ulcer problems in patients future as the plyloric sphincter of the stomach is not removed, amongst other parts as well. YOur right I do have alot of experience with pancreatic surgeries, both personally and professionally. If there is anything else I can help with please let me know. Please also understand that even tho your Mom has welcomed you and your family with open arms the whole moving in and out and Moms rules and what not can be very stressful. When we are stressed we release stress hormones and they can have a wide range of effects on our bodies, none of these effects makes ones sick pancreas feel one bit better. Do try to relax as much as possible and I hope you feel better soon. Warmly, (SC)
