Guest guest
Anyse, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I live with pain myself daily and I know how hard it is. It is all consuming. Your life feels like it is over and that it is truly a living hell. I too am on the patch and there are days I can't tell I even have it on. Have you had surgery yet? Is there an option for you that way? My doc is going to perform surgery on me again. He is doing the beger procedure this time. I am praying that this is my answer. I don't know how much longer I can go living the way I am. I do know that my children and husband are what keeps me going. Without them I would have given up a long time ago. I pray that you will find relief and that your loved ones will rally around you and help you get through this. I will pray for you to have relief and that they will find some option for you. Please let me know if I can help! Angie in SC " The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything that comes along their way. Guest guest
I had a long talk on the phone today with my pain management specialist. I recounted that my raises in Fentanyl from 25 to 50 and then to 75 have had only the effect of making my pain level go down to an 8 on the pain scale. I told him that I live at that level 24/7 and that any additional pain raises it quickly to a 9 or even a 10. I will not gp to emergency to br treated like crap by those doctors there as they know NOTHING about my condition and all of my complications. Well, he explained that I seem to fit the pain model that narcotics will not work to really help my pain and that dilaudud is the ultimate pain killer (taking this by mouth causes me extreme nausea). So, for an experiment, e is raising my Fentanyl from 75 to 150 starting tomorrow. If I remain at the same pain level with this dosage, then my resistance to narcotics will be proven. From there we will then go on to a time released morphine to see if that helps. If that does not work then I am up the proverbial s**t creek as far as pain relief goes. I do not know how I can even possibly live without relief from pain. If all od this does not work, the only thing left would be shots of dilauded and I don't know how that could be arranged every so many hours and how they would let met do it myself if I were given s shunt to use. All of this seems rather hopeless and, should it come to pass that the " model " does not work for me, I shall have to live in terminal hell with pain until my dying day. Should that happen, I am calling " Final Exit " and checking out of here. Anyse

Guest guest
Anyse, dont give up just yet. Lets hope and pray and cross all our fingers that the increase in your patch will alleviate your discomfort. Even if it is just to a more workable level a level that you can function with. Have you ever considered having those nerves blocked or cut. Some people have had a great deal of success with that. Why exactly is any further surgery out of the question? I know that I have haad some complications since the total; but I am so much better off without that diseased organ in my body. Your final exit is not any time soon and neither is mine. I was talking with my eldest about how useless I feel and wondering why I am still here. My youngest, 10 yo, over heard and she came to me later and said she would rather have a sick momma then no momma at all. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. There is still so much each of us can do. You have already helped so many people on this board alone. Your body may be weak and your spirit dampened but you mind is as sharp as you will let it be. Dont give up yet, have faith that one day you may very well find that special key that will unlock your misery and I dont think you will find it with Final Exit. Not any time soon anyway. Guest guest
Anyse, have you thought about getting a pain pump? A lot of people who have becomes resisitant to pain meds eventually go on a pain pump as they then only need a much smaller dose of pain meds as it is hooked into the spinal cord, I think? I'm not sure of all the details, but I know that several of the members in this group have gone on to having a pain pump once they could no longer have pain meds. I know they give you a trial with an external pump and if it works to aleviate the pain, they then put in an internal pain pump. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
