Guest guest
I get that pain all the time now and can't wear a bra a lot of the time. Starting back in 1992 I started getting a VERY severe pain in the middle of my sternum, right under it at the stomach/braline. It felt like someone stuck a knife in me and twisted it. It would usually happen after a meal or at night, and would only last about 15-20 minutes and then go away. But the pain was intense, would bring me to my knees and in tears while it lasted. I used to say, " if I can deal with this, I can deal with childbirth. " One time the pain did not go away and for 4 hours it went on, I went to the ER and they shot me up with Demerol (first and last time I ever had that) and went into a blessed pain relief stupor. They came and went over the years, and neither I or the docs knew what it was. I don't know what it is coming from, my gallbladder, stomach or my pancreas?? Has anyone or dos anyone have a tight feeling around their ribcage, where the pancreas is located?
Guest guest
Eileen, Pancreas, dear! Can't tell you how revealing that description, " it felt like someone stuck a knife in me and twisted it " , has become as an indicator of pancreatitis. My GI was talking to me today about a new patient he has who's in the hospital with an acute attack of pancreatitis. The man said that he " felt as though he'd been impaled with a knife and was then having it twisted around " .....my doctor remembered my having said the same thing when he last admitted me into the hospital with an acute attack. Can't tell you how many times I've heard someone else use the same expression to explain their pancreas pain, there have been just too many! With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
