Guest guest
Crystal, I just love this group, don't you?! So much information and everyone willing and ready to help and advise even people they don't know. Ya gotta love people like that!!! :-) I wanted to respond to one thing you mentioned. I didn't wanna get gross in my first post but evidently I mis-represented something. When my friend eats fat and runs to the bathroom, it is not to puke. It is because, like me, when she eats she has to immeadiatly poop or poop within 20 minutes or so. And she has told me about the oil slick and other " odditys " of her having to poop, making me think she has mal-absorption issues at hand. She told me it isn't true because EVERYONE that eats ANY amount of fat has to do that. I told her she was wrong about that. She won't believe me. She has these problems in the toilet area in when she eats as little as 5 grams of fat in a single sitting. I personally think that anyone that MAKES themselves NOT eat more than 5 grams a fat a day and isn't doing it for health reason, is sick in some way. I see that now. I have told her that NO ONE should try to eat that little fat a day, unless sick and advised by a doctor, because you can't sustain your body on so little. Her reply is that she has been doing it for 3 years now and has no ill effects. We used to be FAT together. Then I got sick with CP and lost weight. So she lost weight. She started trying to follow my diet plan for my CP and SOD even with her not being sick and now I fear that she really is. She just keeps getting thinner and thinner. I used to think I was jealous but I realize I am truely concerned for her. I do not want her GB going out on her with this unreal diet she has been following for so long. Nothing I can do for her if she feels there isn't anything wrong. Also, I remember our FNP told her she wasn't even pre-diabetic....with her withholding all the sugar from her body she has become Hypo or Hyperglycemic. Thats why the FNP told her to start re-introducing real sugar back into her diet. She had cut out ALL sugar and substituted Splenda for everything. Thanks for the advise. I truely appriciate it. Sandy in CA -------------- Original message -------------- Sandy, I don't want to alarm you, but it sounds as though your friend might have an eating disorder. She could be using the diabetes diagnosis as a way to get people to not make her eat. Also, running to the bathroom after eating is characterisitic of bulimia. Guest guest
Sandy, I do love this group! I am taking a nutrition class this semester, and I wanted to share with you some of the symptoms of not eating enough fat and why fat is important in our diet. Perhaps these could be things that you could share with your friend. I also think that they would be good for the group to know. I now understand why I felt the way I did sometimes when I was on a low fat diet because of my pancreatitis. It is important to have a low fat diet, but it is also important to have the essential fats so our bodies can function. First of all the symptoms: flaky, itchy skin diarrhea infections retarded growth slow wound healing anemia There are two essential fatty acids: lonolenic and linleic These fatty acids are needed for: immune function vision cell membranes and production of hormone like compounds Fats function: energy protection insulation absorption of fat soluable vitamins cell membranes are made of phospholipids (fats) texture and taste of food efficient storage of energy satiety lavor and mouth feel cell structure I know a lot of things are repeated, but it is important to get these fats.
