Guest guest
Jerry, That is good info for many of us, since there are quite a few members, (I'm one), who use Duragesic or fentanyl patches. An update and literature to refresh us on instructions never hurts. I think some of these problems may have been caused by improper dosages and/or instructions from the patient's physicians. I've heard of some doctors who ignored, (or didn't know), the precautions on proper dosing, and started patients on too much of the narcotic, which can be very dangerous. Thanks for the info! Guest guest
Heidi & Jerry & Mark Ok, so how does one get the pain management doc to up your Fentanyl/Duragesic dosage to where you know it works? The pain doc started me out at 25mcg (a reasonable thing to do) and when I explained to him that dosage wasn't making it, he gave me another month of the same. Well, I eventually experimented during that month and found that 3 25's worked (no back pain), but 100 would have been even better. I worked up to the 3 x 25 over two weeks (being very careful as I don't want to kick the bucket). I asked him how long until we could get to 75 or 100, he replied 3 months " . I replied " Three months? I'm supposed to lie in bed and gimp around for 3 more months " . Things went so badly with my last pain management doc that I dissolved our relationship and went back to my normal doc and the Lortabs (now upped to 5 a day). Remind you, this isn't only for the pancreas, but my back. But, maybe going to a better pain management doc (I was referred to one by a friend today while doing a cooking demo) who is more cooperative and receptive is the way to go? Perhaps Fentanyl/Duragesic is the way to address both pain issues. Any thoughts? I am so over these Lortabs (now 5 a day) going on 8 years now. Guest guest
Well, Dick, the only thing I can tell you is to keep looking for a good pain doc. I know it's a pain, (no pun intended) I've been through it. I don't know where these so-called doctors get off with these ridiculous explanations. It took me a long time to find a pain doc who was worth their degree. I have no idea why this idiot would want you to increase your Fentanyl over a three month period. That makes no sense to me at all. Hope that helps, Jerry/NC **************************************** > > Heidi & Jerry & Mark > > Ok, so how does one get the pain management doc to up your > Fentanyl/Duragesic dosage to where you know it works? > > The pain doc started me out at 25mcg (a reasonable thing to do) and > when I explained to him that dosage wasn't making it, he gave me > another month of the same. Guest guest
Jerry thanks; Yea, " lets do it over a 3 month period " was not the reasonable or rational answer I was hoping for. I knew right then to get my last prescription from him and say " goodbye & thank you for trying " and return to my regular doc for the Lortabs. At least I have ten 25 mg/h Duragesic patches to use in the future. They are in my medicine cabinet. (Just in case you raid my house) LOL I'll keep you posted this upcoming week as I am going to try a different pain doc. Dick & Alan (the servie dog; I have to say this or people will think I have a beau by the name of Alan) > > Well, Dick, the only thing I can tell you is to keep looking for a good pain > doc. Guest guest
Then again, Alan and I always sleep together, he farts in bed, and we never have sex. Kinda like a mate/marriage I guess. <smile> Dick > > Jerry thanks; > > Yea, " lets do it over a 3 month period " was not the reasonable or > rational answer I was hoping for.
