Can SCD hurt you?

Hi!

I've gotten such good advice, I need to ask more questions...

My almost 3 yr old ASD guy had stopped all diarrhea when we went

gluten free back in Feb. We would know within hours if he had been

exposed since then. We are now on Day 17 of SCD.

My question is he is having diarrhea-like BMs again. Not real

runny, but not at all normal, and kind of strange smelling too. It

seems to be almost a rancid sweet smell. (Sorry, I know TMI).

He has one BM like this every other day. (Nothing in-between).

Prior to SCD he had regular BMs every day like clockwork, none of

this every other day stuff. He also has HUGE reddish-dark circles

under his eyes and very fould breath.

He does eat a lot of banana shakes (with other fruits and veggies

included), but otherwise he would truly starve. The diarrhea seems

to coincide with the start of the probiotic from GI health. He has

taken probiotics in the past though. Could this new one have caused

another round of yeast die-off? Is SCD hurting him? He also takes

Houston SCD compliant zyme prime and peptizyde. (He's been on them

for 3.5 months, and we've seen nothing but positive effects from

them.)

Would the goat yogurt be better then the probiotic? Or both? I

don't want to totally stop attcking the yeast and stop the probiotic

if this will clear up. I know yeast is a huge problem. The goat

yogurt has done wonders for my 19 mo old, but she is not ASD. They

were both GF/CF prior to SCD.

When can I introduce pecan butter?

And as a side note...my fingertips are peeling, sore, and prune-like

on the last week of SCD....any ideas?

Thank you for your help!!

I would assume it's die off and no, it shouldn't hurt him. Remember that day 17

is very early in the diet. Also remember that switching to a new therapy isn't

the same thing as being healed yet, so you may have good days and bad days until

the healing is complete. : D

Hi, Tonja,

Die-off from the probiotic is my guess, plus die-off from the change in

diet itself--it's only day 17.

You can use goat yogurt and pro-biotic both but we recommend not

starting the goat yogurt until 3-4 months into the diet if you were

previously CF so you can tell a yogurt reaction from all of this

initial bad poop and all.

Let all of this clear up before you consider trying pecan butter. You

have to be able to know if he has a reaction to it.
