For Laurie

Thanks Laurie for writing. Sorry I havent answered back with work

schedules and all. Today I saw my GI and he said that I need a

splenctomy and explained why. When my pancreas becamed inflamed, it

also effected the splenic vein from the stomach to the spleen. It

caused a protrusion. It also caused a clot and that is what caused

my stools to turn black because the blood backed up into my stomach

and was digested through out the intestinal tract. He said I also

have gastric varacies when he scoped my stomach. He said that the

removal would stop this problem and the splenic vein would be closed

off. I am apprehensive as anyone in having surgery. I have to see

the surgeon next week as to the details of it, and the recovery time.

The only thing about this senerio I don't like is being off agian for

2 months or greater. The last time I was off is when I had a stent

placed in the pancreatic duct to open it up. I don't have any sick

time or vaction time left to tie me over. I am going to have to ask

the state for assistance once again. I hope I can get enough to get

me through. I enjoyed this group when I first got diagnosed. They

were very helpful and supportive. I don't get much of a chance to

chat, but want to be an active part again. You can always email me

and I will add you to my yahoo instant messenger. Thanks for

answering
