Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My name is Terri and I am about to have the MGB on Thursday morning, December 7th. I'm from Flagler Beach, FL. and thought that it would be interesting to chronicle my experiences Preop and Postop so others can read a little about the what really happens. My husband and I and my three scottish terriers arrived in Durham after a two day trip. Trip was fine except its cold up here. 20's in the morning and only upper 40's afternoon. I went to this morning and met with an absolutely wonderful Dr . She is an Anesthetist and everyone has to interview with one of the DR.'s before surgery. is beautiful and staff is great. I saw a posting about choosing DRH or and it is my understanding that either is available, but if you are really a sick person ( High Blood Pressure, and other problems) DRH is the way you should go as they are a Hospital with appropriate staff. is an outpatient clinic and is staffed well but IS NOT a hospital. I chose as I do not have many complications. I went to Clinic with Dr. R. this afternoon and met Barbara ( " Bitch, Witch or Angel " Her quote by the way and Angel to me), and is here for her surgery on Thursday also. Dr. R. explained the Surgery and showed a video of the actual process from inside the abdomen. Very interesting!! There were about 10-12 other people there including , and two others that are having surgery this week and the others were hopefuls. One point that Dr. R made about High Blood Pressure was astounding. One gentleman having the surgery this week ask when he was to stop taking his HBP medicine. Dr R.'s reply " The night before surgery " . Forever in most cases, but he did say that some people are on 4-5 different medications for HBP, and they may have to continue some of them for a while until they loose some weight. Another point was directly beneficial to me. I have GERD.BAD. You have to take 15mg Prevacid for a about a month after the operation, but after that GERD is OVER. That and the fact I have late onset asthma that has been linked directly to my GERD, that was GREAT news. GERD over and maybe the Asthma too. I finally found out why everyone says they are going to dance with Dr. R. I saw Dr. R about three years ago and he had performed on 65 MGB's at that time. Insurance would not cover but I finally got the money together. I asked him if the surgery is rote now that he has performed over 1000, or more like driving. His response is that it is more like dancing than anything else. There are very specific moves that he makes during the surgery " just like dancing " . So, hope everyone now knows why everyone " Dances " with Dr. R. We are staying at the LaQuinta Inn and Suites. It is located on Hwy 15/501 and close to I40 and about 10 - 15 minutes from the DRH, , and Dr. R. Office and Clinic. Normal room is $69.00 per night but if you tell them that you are here for surgery they drop it to $65.00 per night. Really a nice place and if you are like we are, we don't leave home without or puppies and they are very welcome here. Last night I counted at least 12 other people with doggies. I have a free day tomorrow but because of the Milk of Magnesia that I have to take tomorrow morning, I will be staying close to the Hotel room. I will let those that have a question about that know how fast acting this is tomorrow night. That's it for tonight. Don't want to bore everyone to death. So,More tomorrow if there is anything to report. If not, it will be Thursday night or Friday morning after my " dance " .
