Guest guest
For those people that are GFCF and SCD, do you avoid using the yogurt, the dry curd cottage cheese, and the leagal cheeses? Are there any cheeses that are okay for these two diets? I am having a hard time finding things that my daughter can eat that works for both of these diets. Please help because I am getting very frustrated and don't know what to feed her. Adrienne
Guest guest
Hi Adrienne, The intro diet on the Pecanbread site does not include any casein products, and there are tons of foods to test with, so it will probably be a while before we delve into that. My son and I have been on the intro for a couple of days now. I am planning to get a yogurt maker and try the goat's milk yogurt. The proteins and everything are broken down very very well when you follow SCD guidelines so I will be comfortable with that when the time comes. The goat's milk yogurt is a natural probiotic. Have you done the intro? I found it to be a blessing in disguise, since as we're keeping things very simple to start I have enough time to research in BTVC and on web sites for the next steps. B. Guest guest
Adrienne, Our youngest daughter had been CF long before starting the diet since she vomits any and all dairy--even the smallest hint and even if it's baked into something. We haven't introduced any dairy except for the goat's milk yogurt which she tolerates wonderfully! In fact, we've seen the most improvement with her development (especially speech!) since starting the yogurt. Goat's milk is supposed to be easier to digest and I believe it. We haven't ventured into cow's milk yogurt yet. Good luck! Hope this helps! Guest guest
Our DAN! took my son out of goat´s yogurt. She insistes it has casein. Goat´s yogurt never caused bad reactions to my boy. Can you recomend me a research article in wich demostrate that the casein changes ? Thank you. Antonieta. Guest guest
Hi Antonieta, Please see http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VP9-4GNCGMD-2&_user=1\ 0&_coverDate=05%2F31%2F2006&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=c&_acct=C000\ 050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=11c9cacbead70c3a333a594f7deef833 (you may have to cut and paste this link to get it to work; if you can't get it to work I can send you the info offlist) This is from the Pecanbread website: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/yogurt1.html#goatcow The Process of Making Yogurt Changes the Casein From Elaine Gottschall: When we make yogurt and the pH falls to about 4.5 rather than 7.1-2 (as in fluid milk), the proteins are denatured which means that because of the acidity, the proteins lose their 3 dimensional structure (sterochemistry) which would be the reason allergists worry about casein. In yogurt and in the natural cheeses, the casein is denatured into a two-dimensional structure which would be less likely to cause allergic reactions. You didn't see any negative reactions with the yogurt - did you see an positive reactions when you started the yogurt? How much were you using? Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, we´ve been on goat´s yogurt for 6 months, I only saw good thinks in my boy (4y/o, PPD NOS). Ican´t explain you details in English, but was good for his gastrointestinal sistem and in his behaivour. I think DAN! doctors follow a estrict protocol and think all milk has casein. I want to give them some information about goat´s yogurt. Please send me all the information out off list. Thank you very much again! Antonieta. Guest guest
Hi Antonieta, There is a lot of information on this page http://www.milkfacts.info/Milk%20Composition/protein.htm (If you can't open this link let me know and I'll send you the info separately) It tells how denaturating the proteins makes them easier to digest. Making SCD 24 hour yogurt denatures the casein. The casein is denatured by lactic acid. The good bacteria in the yogurt starter produce the lactic acid as they digest all the lactose.
