All fruits and veggies should be peeled and cooked in the beginning... for

everyone who is new to SCD. That goes for those who were on other diets

previously.... whether the person had diarrhea or constipation... and even if

they were " tolerating " a particular food in raw form before. This is how you'll

make the best possible progress on SCD.

Starting the SCD

I looked over the beginners sample diet for children I noticed that

many fruits had to be introduced slowly and baked at first. Should I

follow this closely or can I give my son fruits that he seems to to

tolerate already. He has been on a GFCF diet for 3 years now but after

reading about the SCD it seems like a better option. I just want to

know how important the slow start is. Thank You

I am in the midst of the beginner's diet and I can say

it is important. My son was also GFCF and it never

seemed like any foods bothered him. Well, I slipped up

three days in and gave him plain lettuce and he had

diarrhea! That convinced me.

I just saw a new doctor (who is AMAZING and just like

I'd imagine a DAN would be) and she recommended that

we wait four days between each food. She says that's

how long some foods take.

Hi!

My name is and I have been chickening out about the intro diet with my son

but I

think I'm ready to jump in. I am going to do it myself too... I also have

Rheumatoid

Arthritis and am convinced that diet helps (a strict diet helped me get off of

my athritis

meds years ago so that I could have my children). Of course, I have added a lot

of bad

stuff to my siet since then and need to start over. Maybe we could compare

notes?

Thanks,

Hey guys, count me in! I'm and I've been lurking for a few weeks

now. We are on Day 5 of the SCD diet. My son Woody is almost 10,

ASD, non-verbal but highly intelligent. Previously addicted to fries

(preferably Mickey D's), " orange " rice from El Pollo Loco and diet

orange soda. To say that the Introductory Diet was hard for him would

be an UNDERSTATEMENT. He hates mushy or pureed textures, etc.. My

husband and I are doing it with him. He is not happy AT ALL, and it's

been tough to find ways to prepare the foods so that he will eat them.

By this morning, Day 5, I actually got him to eat ground chicken and

eggs before school, and he was able to be in his class without

screaming and banging his head for the first time in a while.

I know we're nowhere near being out of the woods yet, but I'm proud

that we all stuck 110% to the Intro diet. We are under the care of

the Thoughtful House, and the nutritionist there gave me instructions

that are even a little more restrictive than Elaine's. We also have

to be casein free and beef free.

How many of you experienced extreme misery and upset from your ASD

kids when going through the early stages? How did you live through it?

Hi ,

" Extreme misery " is pretty common.... though temporary. This is probably

happening due to die-off toxins that he's having to process.

Epsom salts baths can help a lot... and some use activated charcoal

supplements to soak up toxins.

Don't worry... it will get better and he will most likely begin to accept more

new foods.

Congrats on getting off to a good start.

around) since May 2006.

Hi

We made lots of popsicles out of all the mushy fruits and veggies and my

boys loved them. We also put it in ground turkey or chicken too and some

morning put it in our scrambled eggs. We also cooked fruit and boiled down

apple cider until it was thick and poured like syrup over it. We made

chicken pan cakes too. We made souflee like things and muffins from just

eggs and fruit puree. Now we eat most of the veggies and fruit in thier

natural form but we still peel and take out the seeds.

It has been challenging, but now it is so easy.

Good luck

Mom to and 4 year old twins

lost ASD dx and went from ASD to PDD.

SCD for six months

Hi B!

My son is actually doing pretty well. He's allowed to

have eggs and beef while I am not, as I want to test

them later. I think I had a reaction to the beef I ate

the first day, and I've never been sure about eggs but

I am planning to test them soon.

The only problem with my son is that he's bored. He

was addicted to gluten but he is an easy kid when it

comes to food. Sure he gets a little upset when he

can't have what he wants for dinner, but he gets over

it.

I'm the one going insane...I'm only eating chicken

soup, cooked carrots, green beans and the legal jello,

which results in me not really eating enough and

fatigue is setting in. I'm also always cooking. I'm

going to test a new food on Saturday.
