Guest guest
Hello all, I am so thankful to have found this group! I was nearing the end of my rope tonight, with too many questions, too few answers, too little communication from doctors. I am literally crying with happiness at having found all of you. My husband is just 32, and is now at 6 1/2 weeks in care- 5 1/2 weeks in the hospital and now 1 week in a nursing home. We have 2 small children, and its been a difficult time. He has had kidney failure (now past), the not-so fun mysterious infections, and more. I know that many here have gone through worse, but it has been so scary. My husband is fully expecting to be able to come home, rest for a week or so, and just return to work. I hope this is the case, but I don't think so. They have tried to progress him to a partial liquid diet twice, which failed. They are currently waiting for his enzyme levels to normalize and the nauseua before trying again. He is on NPO and ice chips. The hospital just sort of dumped him in the nursing home. The nurses ignored/wouldn't listened to our concerns. I won't list them all, but letting a diabetic person rest at blood sugars between 250 and 380 for 5 days is just not a good thing. The doctors haven't exactly been forthcoming with information. I think they are focusing on the patching up and sending home part, but there is so much more to be concerned with. We were told that someone would be monitoring his pancreatitis in the nursing home, but after speaking with the physician's assistant today, it appears that no doctor is actually assigned to do so. Do you all mind if I ask some questions here? I know there are no definites ahead, but I need to have some idea of what to plan for. I have so many concerns about health care, social security- and just plain living. I apologize if I have been long-winded. I have few people to talk to, little help for myself or our children, and just a wee bit of stress. I don't have pancreatitis myself, so I hope it is all right if I even post here. If I don't take charge of all our lives, diet- etc, I know that my husband won't take care of himself. He simply won't survive another attack like this. Thanks again for just being here. I look forward to speaking with all of you more in the future. Jeanette
