Guest guest
My 10 year old son Garet has been on the SC diet just shy of 3 months now. I have a couple of concerns. The first being that he has always been a consitpated kid on the GFCF diet. Since being on the SCD he has had loose stools. I keep trying to drop his dose of C and mag. but certainly don't want him to be constipated again. He keeps complaining that his bottom hurts. Is it normal to have such loose stools this long?? Also, He has been on 4 mg of Singulair for stomach inflammation for over a year. He is now complaining of stomach pain alot, and behaviors are getting worse due to more pain. Does it make sense to have increased stomach pain, when he is eatng more digestable food? I haven't seen him feel this bad in a long time. Here is what he is eating. scrambled eggs, squash pancakes, welches grape juice, chicken cupcakes, hamburgers with pureed beans and carrots, bananas, chicken and green beans with a little butter. Occasionally he will eat cooked applesauce, but not much at a time. We aren't using any almond flour yet. Also his stomach is making lots of loud noises, as if his digestive system is strained. He is burping non-stop and just seems to be having a tough time. He doesn't eat large amounts of food, and some days he doesn't eat more then two times all day. I feel the pain is causing him to not want to eat. I am wondering if I should try a med for the inflammation for a few months until his body adjusts to this new way of eating?? Guest guest
Patti, There are so many variables. It does seem odd that he has had loose stools all this time. Are you absolutely certain all of his supplements are legal? Are you using magnesium citrate, by any chance? Is he taking acidophilus? Some kids do not tolerate carrots well. Have you tried pulling them out? And are you sure your bananas are always nice and ripe? I'll try to help if I can. Guest guest
It does depend on so many things. My two cents...did you start with only a couple of foods and increase from there? It sounds like you need to go back to the bare basics. Supplements can also cause problems for some kids. You may want to re-introduce those one at a time as well. For my son, we are still in the early stages, and bananas are a problem for him. He is having loose stools that look light, which makes me think they are feeding yeast even though they are very ripe, so we are going to stop them and try again later. I think your son is definitely having a hard time digesting something. I never heard of taking Singulair for stomach pain. It made me sick to my stomach when I was briefly on it for asthma. Guest guest
For us we had to go back to the intro diet of just chicken and apples. We added banana, he was fine, we added green beans, fine, we added back burger....tummy pain and loose stools. We actually had more tummy pain on this diet and looser stools until we removed red meat. We have just now introduced it again in small amounts and he is fine so far. This is three months later and now six months into the diet. We introduced the goats yogurt two weeks ago and the beef just this week again. Not sure if this would be your problem but it was definitely ours for the one twin. I think the goats yogurt has helped so our son could tolerate the beef. You may have to go back to the intro for just a day like we did. As soon as we reintroduced the beef the tummy pains were back that night. Now with waiting three months he is fine and so far so are his stools (fingers crossed) Behaviour and tummy pains go hand and hand. Same with our NT 11 year old. He has a wheat allergy and we know when he has had it because he starts getting whiney and sensitive when otherwise he is an easy going kid. Everytime he gets like this he has a tummy ache at night and we can 99 percent of the time trace it back to accidently ingesting wheat. Hope this helps Cindy Mom to and ( healed and recovering) 4 year old twins SCD six long exhausting well worth it months! Guest guest
HI there...we are getting that -the gurgles and burps and some quite noxious toots with yeast die off....that would also explain the tummy aches perhaps and the stool changes...any signs of yeast in the stools? This diet starves the pathogens when it is doing what it should....this could all be detox...perhaps others will be able to tell you for sure. Since he is having loose stool 3-4days would be best. Make sure the carrots are cooked sufficiently (4 hours) and pureed. After the intro introduce foods again , leaving the green beans until last. Leave at least 2-3 days bewteen the addition of new foods after the intro. I would consider stopping the C and Magnesium, he isn't constipated now and they may be contributing to the pain. What type of Vit C is he using? - some can cause stomach aches Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and

It does seem odd that he has had loose stools all this time. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I am concerned about his stools. It's odd for a kid who is always been constipated. Unless he is detoxing and cleaning out?? Not all of his supplements are 100% legal, and I am slowly trying to do that. There seems to be a very fine line from loose stools to constipation, so I am trying to work that out. We do mag. glycinate not Citrate. He isn't taking acidophilus either. He is so sensitive to so much, I will just have to keep experimenting and reducing. Yes bananas are always ripe, and I don't think they are a problem, because when he does feel bad, the next day, all he will eat is 1/2 a banana and 2 eggs. Thanks for all the suggestions. Guest guest
Patti G., You said: <<Not all of his supplements are 100% legal, and I am slowly trying to do that.>> I have to be honest with you.... until you do get the supps 100% legal, you won't make headway on SCD. I know it's not what you want to hear, but that's just a fact. And you've got to be using some source of (legal) probiotics with this diet.
