Guest guest
Hello to all my Mgb Family... (In case you all wondered, those pics that came through earlier were taken 1 year post op.) As of 12/2/00 I celebrated my first birthday. I say this b/c I feel as if I have been given a new life and for that I am eternally grateful. As I sit and reflect on what the last year has meant to me I shed tears...some of joy and some of great pain. The Mgb and the post op journey has not been an always easy one, however, I would not change a thing. On 12/2/99 I had my surgery and weighed in at 261 lbs. I had lost 9 lbs prior and did not even know it. I was wearing a size 24 and I was miserable. Not only was my self esteem in the dumps, but my health was fading. I had high blood pressure, borderline diabetic, Polycystic ovarian disease, chronic lower back and hip pain, shortness of breath, and joint pain. I could not even play piggy back with my girls I hurt so badly from the pressure of the weight. Not to mention I would run out of breath in a matter of minutes. When I married my husband, I knew I did not love him and I knew the only reason I did it was b/c I thought I could do no better. It was b/c of the MGB that I had the strength to leave that abusive situation and finally love again. One year later, I now weigh in at 152 lbs and in a size 10. A total loss of 118 lbs and 7 sizes gone. I can eat almost anything that I want except for sugar. Still could not tell you if I would dump b/c I am too scared to try. Not one sweet in a year. The easiest things for me to tolerate would be meats. Steak, pork chops, chicken (sometimes), No hamburger for me though. Oh and no pasta! Don't do well with those. I love and crave meat and salads. Go figure. I have been pretty slack with the exercising but only b/c of the fatigue. I can see it in my skin and I hate that. I plan on a tummy tuck and probably thigh job and who knows...maybe even boob job really soon! LOL We will see. You may also remember me telling you about the fainting & dehydration episodes and I have an update on that. According to the tests: Blood Pressure is 110/70 Sugar levels are normal Pottasium levels are normal B-12 levels are very good No Thyroid dysfunction Red & White Blood Cells look great Platelet levels are wonderful Iron a little low... Not to bad I must say. So...no more Leukemia scares. I will be having my 1 yr blood work done next week and we will see where everything else stands. Dr R I still need the request on letterhead and signed by you please good man! lol My pcp and I feel confident that my problems come from a few different areas. Depression, low iron and magnesium levels, Urinary Tract Infection, and Dehydration. All of that is being taken care of with Serezone 150 mg antidepressant), 3 Iron a day, 3 magnesium a day, 4 one source a day, and some good ole antibiotics. I feel better now than I have since the surgery and I even lost my job b/c I have been so sick! LOL Oh well... So, with that being said, I say thank you to my angel, Dr Rutledge. I thank you for your skills, your kindness and openness. But most of all I thank you for your bluntness in my situation. You have always been there for me through this even when I brought some problems on myself. Thanks for always telling it like it is and thanks for allowing me the opportunity to live a happier and healthier life. ===== MGB 12/2/99 Pre-Op 271lbs & size 24 Now 153lbs & size 10 Goal was 150 now shooting for 135 __________________________________________________
