Guest guest
Hi all, I have not posted for a few weeks as I have been battling an acute attack of pancreatitis for about 3 weeks now!!!!!!!!! Trying to stay out of the hospital. My Internist has been treating me for all my medical conditions for about 3 1/2 years now. He only has 4 patients that he prescribes narcotics for, myself being one of them. A few weeks ago, he said that he received some new literature that the DEA is cracking down on docs who keep prescribing narcotics for patients who aren't seen on a " regular basis. " I see him every 4 weeks. I have NEVER missed an appointment and I have NEVER asked him for my pain medication even 1 day earlier than when I am supposed to get it. He said that he would continue to treat me, but that I should see a pain doctor who can do the documentation and prescribe my narcotics. I have seen pain doctors in the past and they all agree that CP is treated with narcotics and they tell my Internist that what he is doing is " correct. " The pain docs that I have seen have chosen NOT to prescribe narcotics AT ALL. They treat pain with therapy, massage, etc., etc. My Internist is best friends with my GI doc and they play tennis once a week and they always discuss my case and agree on what is being done for me. Therefore, my question is: who do you all get your narcotics from? Your pain docs, GI docs, or Internist? None of the pain docs that are on my Insurance prescribe narcotics. Also, I am awaiting a trial before a Law Judge and I have been trying to obtain any and all of my medical records from everyone I have ever seen. I did obtain my records from a doc that I saw in my teenage years and he does document " stomach problems. " They mention, IBS, gastritis, nerve stomach, etc. Do you think that these chart notes will help my case? Also, I finally had blood drawn this week to be tested for Hereditary Pancreatitis. It was sent to the Mayo Clinic and I don't know how long it will take to get those results back. I would greatly appreciate any information about these things. My thoughts and prayers are will you all!!!!!! T. (Ohio)
Guest guest
, I go to clinic right now-a " regular " doctor and he doesn't have problem giving me narcotics. He will only give me Lortab 10/500,which works pretty well.I asked him about some Demerol for breakthrough pain - which a doctor in Ct. where I used to live prescribed me.He told me in order to get something stronger,I would need to see a pain clinic-which,incidently,I have referrals to,but cannot afford to.I also take Flexeril 10mg(muscle relaxer) for back problems but I think it works well with the Lortab-somehow.My doc agress with me and said it is relaxing stomach muscles too. - hmmmm. Guest guest
I have my PCP that control's my pain meds. I had asked him a month or so ago if I could go see a pain doc so that way he wouldn't have to worry about having to prescribe me narc's every month. He told me that the only thing the pain doc's do here is give steroids and he didn's want me to start that. I think that he didn't want me to get addicted like I was about 7-8 yrs ago. I was taking 300ml of morphine every three hours. My fiancee was the only thing that saved me and I had just started seeing my PCP for the first few times. I do also have a gastro doc but mainly my PCP works with my pain issues....
Guest guest
Hi , My pain doc has been prescribing my pain meds for a little over two years now. At my last visit though, she mentioned that the policy in the pain clinic is changing to sending stable pain patients to a PCP in the future for all narcotic prescriptions. Personally I am not in favor of this as my pain doc is the only one I have now and the only doctor that I trust and has treated me with any kind of compassion and respect. I am hoping that I can be the exception to their new rule...... laurie My personal opinion concerning your earlier files that mention IBS, etc is that these diagnoses will hurt you. However, I have never put my case to any legat scrutiny, so I could be giving you very bad advice. I am just basing it on my personal beliefs on how the medical field views a diagnosis of IBS (most think it is a purely self-induced, malingerer's " disease " ). Guest guest
Hi all, I just recently moved and we found out that going from one state to the other and needing narcotic drugs is a very tricky thing to do. In Alabama my PCP took care of the pain management and all of the Dr's I went to agreed he should do this because he saw me the most. But in Nevada only a Pain Clinic Dr can do this and everyone else is very scared of prescribing any narcotics. I have found a pain Dr. that I am getting comfortable with but changing Dr's is very frustrating at this point in my illness. But because of finances and insurance my husband had to change jobs to keep me in health care. The pain Dr here after she saw me the first time explained to me the things they look for in a person that is trying to get the drugs to sell or who is addicted with no disease. It has to be hard for the Dr's with all of the scams out there. But unfortunatly they hurt those of us who are truly ill.
