Guest guest
Hello all, Well the good Lord made sure this week that I was going to be good,. On Monday I went to work and for lunch had a beef steak sandwich. That afternoon I felt an onset of another attack coming on. You just don't know until you have one. I took my usual pain meds as directed by my doctor and went to bed that evening. The pain did not subside but for only a few hours. I slept some. The next morning I knew I had a full fledge attack. I checked in to the ER and got some relief but then they released me to home. I was angry because I was hoping to stay at least 24 yours to be monitored. I immediately contacted my GI and complained to him until he did a direct admit to the hospital. I ended up staying 2 nights until my pancreas returned to being pain free. I am slated for having a splenectomy on Tuesday the 1st of Nov and the doc said that I must be pain free before I have my surgery. I was released on Thursday. I am being very careful on what I eat and drink. Taking my pancreatic supplements and vicodin when I need them. I want this surgery because I have developed Gastric varicies in my stomach and spenic vein. I am hoping to feel better after this is done. I will be off work for the month of November. I hope to chat with all of you during my time of recovery. Thanks to all for being there and giving me support when I need it. And thanks to all for helping me learn more about this dreadful condition. I have another question, but that will be in another message. Guest guest
, I'm really sorry that you had so much trouble and had to get in to the hospital to get it sorted out because I know you were trying hard to be pain free for your upcoming surgery. I just had to comment on your choice of a beefsteak sandwich.....from the very beginning my GI has told me to avoid any red meat, and especially beef, as it usually has so much fat in it that it irritates the pancreas. I was always good about avoiding any beef, and didn't touch it until they developed the hamburger meat that was 98% fat free. Everyone's tolerances are different, I know, but I would suggest that you stick to chicken breasts and fish for the time being.....it just might make a positive difference for you! Even though my pancreas has burned out, I still can't handle any other types of beef except that 98% lean hamburger. I went to an oyster roast tonight and they had beef brisket on the buffet table. I thought things were different now because I have been able to eat a more liberal diet since my burn out. Boy, was I wrong! Within half an hour I felt the pains in my stomach, and I left because my oxycodone was at home. The tightening around my sternum came next, and my abdomen was killing me when I walked in my front door. I've taken my oxy, but the belly pain's getting worse, so I know now that I can't handle any red meat. I could kick myself for being so stupid!! I'll be rooting for you that you can keep yourself out of pain and trouble prior to your upcoming surgery. Keep thinking LOW FAT. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
