Guest guest
Hi , I am sure you have heard this before but I feel complelled to say it. Even NON ALCOHOLIC beverages contain alcohol. If they didn't, then my 14 year old would be able to leagally buy it. And we all know that ANY alcohol will eventually catch up to your pancreas, whether that night or not. JUST DON'T DO IT! I was smoking when first diagnosed. I felt no ill effects from it...or so I thought. I now know that smoking effects all of your body right done to your bones. I thought smoking relaxed me. And it probably did. I quit smoking when I read up on smoking and herditary pancreatitis, and the 50% greater chance to develope pancreatic cancer. So if it effects hereditary pancreatits that way, maybe some day down the road they will come to the conclusion it might be that way with ALL forms of pancreatitis. I didn't wanna take that chance. Its funny but when I would be in the middle of a bad panc attack and needed to get to the hospital, I would literally crawl to the garage to have that last cigarette before we left for the hospital. And then in the ER I would fein for them. And during the hospital stays I would be found in the atrium where I was alowed to smoke the entire day and night. I am glad I stopped smoking, but I do understand your problem. I say if you can stop smoking that you will feel better, in many ways. You have to eat what you can that makes you be able to live with yourself and still within the means of your pancreatic problems. I am willing to bet that most of us eat things we shouldn't or nibble on this and that and pay for it in the way of pain later on down the road. Will your doctor allow you to increase your enzymes until you find a happy medium with them? You certainly can't OD on them and so much of their help depends on how you feel when you take them and how many you need to take to feel good. Make sense? I was told I could have as many as 10 pancrealipase with each meal and 5 with snacks if I so desired and needed that much. It all depended on what I was going to eat as to how many I actually took. I find myself living on Coke2 lately. Yes, the caffine is supposed to be bad for you, so I hear. The sugar too. I haven't read that anywhere about caffine but I don't doubt it's validity. But I want sweet and I am nausiated alot and the soda and caffine help with that and the effects of the pain pills. Thats my downfall. I do what I have to to make myself feel better without having to pop so many pills. Still haven't gotten used to the idea of taking them alot. And stress in any form is a bad thing. Try to avoid it if you can. Don't know if any of what I said will be helpfull, but I hope so. Sandy in Ca -------------- Original message -------------- Hello Everyone. I have a question regarding smoking and it's effects on the pancreas. I am really having a tough go of quitting smoking. I quit drinking alcohol over 2 years ago and since then if I really crave a beer, I will have a non alcoholic beer. I don't know if it causes me pain as I am almost always in pain. I don't know if the smoking increases the pain or not. Does anyone smoke in the group or recently quit and noticed a difference in less pain after quitting. Guest guest
I still smoke also. My doc told me that in can make it worse, but I have to give up food so at least I can smoke! If I can't eat smoking helps me get through that. That is my vice, and I just can't give it up yet.
