Guest guest
It was Thanksgiving, you know, and I made Pecan Pie (wonderful recipe, Marilyn--this was the first one I ever made) which was luscious but FAR too rich for my intestines and I spent most of yesterday in misery after I ate it. I hadn't felt good most of the day, since about noon (which was before I had the pie) so I also wonder if the cup of coffee I had on an empty stomach had anything to do with that? After the one piece of pie, though, my nose got all stuffy, my throat got scratchy (still is) and my stomach/guts felt like I had a rock (or gravel) in it/them. I felt 'plugged', for sure. So I did an enema last night (did charcoal yesterday during the day) and found bits of undigested nut in the stool. The first thing that alerted me to a problem started Wednesday night, though, with a protrusion of my normally flattish navel area. Like something was blocked in there. After the enema last night, that area has gone down and feels back to normal. I was baking the night before Tday and probably tasted things (SCD legal) I shouldn't have (until they were baked) but...well, I did anyway. I am doing this diet because I've always had gut problems and brain problems (depression, especially) and finally made the gut/brain connection some years ago and just found SCD three weeks ago. I have yeast overgrowth, so I'm thinking all the honey in the pie was not a good idea (even though I cut it from 2 cups to 1.5 cups). Also, I have a mold allergy (highest score of all my scores) and nuts are notorious for mold. I keep my nuts and nut flour in the freezer. I'm just trying to figure out what I did. My kids did great with our food right next to their dad's traditional non-SCD foods and none of them have been sick. I'm doing a light day for me today, with turkey broth and carrots and jello, just to give my body a rest. Anyone have any wisdom? I know I screwed up, I'm just not sure which thing (coffee on empty stomach? ground nuts too soon? too much honey?) triggered my problems. Thanks, Cathe, yeast overgrowth, mom to: 15yo ds ASD, OCD, bipolar, 10yo ds ADHD, bipolar, 6yo ds  NT, severe constipation (just brought me a dried up hydrangea flower and asked me to marry him) All SCD since 11/4/2007
Guest guest
I am just getting over a bout of what you described. I ate cashews, was extremely sick (nobody else, just me). I thought it was the cashews, they didn't digest, I was tossing and felt like gravel in the gut...maybe it's a bad time of year for nuts or a bug? Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Hi Cathe, How were your symptoms before the coffee and pie? When you write " throat feels scratchy " do you mean scratchy as in hoarse or sore or do you mean scratchy as in " itchy " ? Have you eaten pecans (or pecan pieces) and all ingredients in the pie before. If the coffee was early in the day? on an empty stomach that may have set up a chain reaction that was amplified by the pie.
