Guest guest
Hello, My name is Deanna Ballard and my little boy Zachy just turned 5. He was diagnosed at 2 years 4 months and we immediately began GFCF and DAN protocol. We use basic DAN and homeopathy along with monthly IVIG infusions that have gotten Zachy to the point where most do not know he has a diagnosis and he is in a typical class without aid support. One of our biggest challenges has been his " eating disorder " , he will not eat. He for the past 3 years had drank a smoothie everyday and will only eat carbs (pancakes or cereal). He will never try new foods....at all!! So we eliminated (4 days ago) all carbs and make a SDC legal smoothie (he will not do bone broths yet) other than that he will not eat. Today he is lethargic, sick acting and will only take water. I have read this can happen when all carbs are eliminated I just need to be sure this is not malnutrition and I just need direction on what to do now for him. Any advice will be appreciated, thank you. Deanna

Guest guest
Hi, Deanna, You are getting in some good nutrition. Do keep him hydrated. Will he drink the diluted juice or drink water? Have you tried putting foods in homemade popsicles? There are posts about this from some very creative parents in the archives. Another way to get in more nutrition is to make a thin puree and shoot it into the back of the child's mouth with a medicine syringe. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi Deanna, I don't agree with starving little kids. I recently posted about a mom who learned (after she had allowed her child to starve himself many times) that the child had an undiagnosed metabolic disorder. The fasting caused brain damage. Metabolic disorders are not uncommon with our kids, so I don't think starving should be encouraged. Assuming your child does not have such a condition, why not make this a positive transition for your child anyway? As well as your child is doing without SCD, it doesn't sound like he needs to go on this diet overnight. Take a few weeks/months to transition him. During that time introduce SCD foods and slowly eliminate carbs. This worked for us and my child now eats just about anything put in front of him (with the exception of ground beef). He used to also have a severe feeding disorder and was also carb addicted. A gradual transition to complete SCD was a very positive experience for him, as was slowly expanding his diet. - deannaballard22 wrote: Hello, My name is Deanna Ballard and my little boy Zachy just turned 5. Guest guest
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will do just that. We already know that he has an immune disorder so I would not rule out another type of disorder. I think he may be trying to get sick, he is developing the sniffles too. I will cut down on the carbs and add in as much SCD food that we are eating (my daughter is doing well on it). Hopefully he will eventually come around to accepting more foods. Thanks again for your advice, Deanna Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T Re: Just began diet 4 days ago and 5 year old wont eat.....is now lethargic. Hi Deanna, I don't agree with starving little kids. What kind of damage will it do to her. Just one cherry. My husband insisted to give her potatoes tonight as she is still having sleeping problem despite of 5-HTP and melatonin, he's still not satisfied with the diet. Please help!
