Importance of not overlooking foods their body reacts to

I have to share this with all of you. We have been SCD for 7 weeks now. We've

seen good things, but since taking out two foods that his blood tests showed he

had a mild reaction to, we've seen some amazing things. I wanted to share it

with you so you can see the importance of not overlooking foods their bodies

react to. This is an email I wrote to someone else, but didn't want to retype

it, so here's the story.

Just two days ago, along with the diet, I decided to take out foods that his

blood tests showed he was sensitive to - eggs and tomatos. We've seen great

things since doing that. The things he talks about at times seems more

conversational rather than asking a million questions about his fascination,

elevators. Also, a major thing. I don't know if you remember, but along with

autism, he was born with Spina Bifida, a hole in his back. He can't stand on his

own or walk, although he can cruise around furniture like a toddler does,

holding and leaning on everything. He falls a lot too, even when sitting. He is

8 and still sits in a high chair up to the table so he can't fall. We never sit

him in a chair without arms. Well, I noticed Friday (one day after taking him

off eggs and tomatos) his sitting balance seemed much better. I had him sitting

on a step stool while I put his coat on. He just felt solid, so I told him to

sit real still and I let go. He sat there perfectly. Then Saturday night, after

supper, he crawled into the kitchen and pulled himself up using the counter. He

was standing in the middle of the kitchen holding on with one hand! That is

truly amazing, but it gets better. He took hold of my hand and started walking

along the cabinets, hold one hand on the cabinets and the other to my hand. He

then took hold of the cabinet and faced it. He asked, " mama can I stand without

holding on? " That question in itself is amazing. I said, " I don't know, why

don't you try. " He slowly let go and stood for about 2 seconds before grabbing

again. He tried again and this time fell on his bottom. I ran to tell his daddy

to come watch, I grabbed the video camera and went back in. He hadn't given up.

He stood back by the counter and, this time on video, let go. He stood without

holding on for many seconds, 5-10. I was beside myself with joy. This is

absolutely amazing and unbelievable. Who would have thought this diet could do

that!

Diane,

Wow! That is so great to hear. My son and I have only

been SCD a couple of weeks now and already I have seen

major improvements. But it's good to know about the

blood tests. We may have that done when he is going

into first grade since he needs a blood test at that

time anyway.
