Hi Kimber,

I wondered if you need to take a break through medication or if the

methadone controls your pain. Do you take it twice a day? Would you

mind telling me how much you take? I can't remember how much Chris

used to take, but now he uses 50 mg a day, but still takes oxy for

breakthrough pain. I wonder how high you can go with the methadone,

so he wouldn't need the oxy. Thanks. .

most of the time, the methadone covers my pain, but I do have

breakthrough pain at least several times a week, sometimes more,

sometimes less. It varies. I take the Methadone 3 times a day and I

take 25mg a dose. It comes out to 75mgs a day. I just recently had it

upped to this dosage though. Before this I was taking 60mgs a day and I

had been on that dose for about 2 years at least. I can tell you this,

almost every CP patient I know has breakthrough medication, because CP

pain changes frequently, so it's hard to find a dose that will cover

every pain. This way, you don't have a really high dose you don't need,

but you have coverage for those days when the pain is worse.
