Guest guest
My son is very fatigued & irritable since beginning the diet. We are nervous about his lethargy. Is this from the die off? How do we know if we should keep going? We are looking for support & hope to hear from others as to what they think. He has been eating a wide variety of meats (proteins) but has been very picky about the veggies. Thanks! Tricia
Guest guest
Did you try the watered down 100 percent grape juice? Cooked carrot pancakes are popular here as well. It is important that he get enough carbs to keep his brain going, and he won't get those without eating the veggies or drinking juice. He needs more carbs. B. Guest guest
I would also be interested in hearing if this is a common reaction to the diet. My 4 year old son has been extremely fatigued for the past two days. (Today was the first day off of the intro diet which we did for two days.) Yesterday, I found him sleeping on our couch (he stopped taking naps a long time ago) where he slept for 3 to 4 hours. Today, he woke up exhausted (around 8am) and fell asleep around noon and slept for 4 hours. He was very addicted to starchy foods prior to starting the diet. (He had been GFCF for most of the year). That is the only change that we have done - not giving him mashed potatoes, pancakes or rice. He is taking Diflucan for yeast overgrowth. He did have some initial cravings for carbs when he started Diflucan but things got better. He's been taking Diflucan for about two weeks now. Just curious as to what might be causing this. Thanks for your help. Judy 4 days on the SCD My son is very fatigued & irritable since beginning the diet. We are nervous about his lethargy. Is this from the die off? Guest guest
I did water down home made apple puree. What grape juice is SCD legal? He ate alot of pumpkin/apple/egg pancakes I made today. He still seemed tired. I will try the carrot pancakes for breakfast. Is there a recipe to follow? He has only liked raw fruits & veggies and I don't know how I am going to get him to eat all of the cooked ones. I appreciate any ideas. I am feeling desperate, but I don't want to quit if it will help him. Guest guest
Carrot pancakes might be the Sneaky Veggie Pancakes on the pecanbread.com site. It is common to fell bad/lethargic as the body goes through all the initial adjustments to the diet. Carbs can be added in the form of popsicles. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/

Guest guest
Judy, My almost 3 year old with ASD was the same way on the intro diet, interesting to see such a similar experience! He NEVER naps, and he slept a LOT for the two days we did the intro diet. He was also GFCF prior to SCD, but he lived on starches, especially things made from rice flours. We've never used a prescription anti-yeast on him. He also threw up a bit the second day.
